Painting My body kit....
Painting My body kit....
i am a total newbie when it comes to paint stuff. i have the paint code for my thunder grey (thanks to the sticky). do i just take that code to any auto body place or where would you recommend i take it? do i have to request anything special like the flakes or are those included in the paint code? also, how many quarts will i need roughly to do a ken style kit, fb, ss, rb? one last thing, how much should it cost for a quart, what shouldnt i pay over? thanks, lol.
the shop will know what color u have cause they will look under the hood and on ur driver door. they will know what to do. i got mine painted this past tueday and it was done the next day. it depends on what kind of color u got mine is yellow so they needed a lot to match it perfect. since u have TG it would be easier to match. i paid 450 for just the front bumper and SS plus they had to reinforce it so it would have been a little cheaper.. u might pay 550 for a full kit. id recommend u to the place where i went but its about 6000 miles away from u.. heheeh

prime auto body. www.primeautobody.com check it out. its in union right off RT 22.. they were pretty nice and honest. i think i'll get alll my paint jobs there from now on
they dont install kits b/c i asked around and ppl at shops told me that there isnt much money that they make when it comes to installing kits so i just did it myself and saved the extra 500 they prolly would have charge.

Thanks J.P! Pickle i think u still need to buy from an autobody shop... DONT BUY CHEEEEEEEP paint!! Cuz in the end.... u'll Kick u'r self in the ***** if u do. SEM makes the best Quality paint........ Perfection doesnt come cheap, but u'll be so proud
damn, ur gonna do it urself?. what if u mess up? i was planning to paint it myself but hell no. they gotta use some chemical so that it will remove all the dirt and figerprints then paint it, clear coat it and then bake it. the paint might run if u do it urself. 450 isnt bad for a kit to get painted and it done right with a warrenty.

hahaha alright. seems like u know what ur doing. try home depot or a car shop. usually the shop mixes colors to get the right match. i'm not sure if they have all the colors in stock probably the basic colors... white, black, silver red ect... not like mother of pearl or midnight sky blue on a november weekend yada yada ...
make sure u ask them to use the GERMAN paint, forgot what its called, but it's supposed to be the best quality.
and get the bottom of ur kit, like under skirts and bumpers sprayed with GRAVEL GUARD or some **** like that, its a spray can type **** that makes the coat rough so rocks wont chip or peel below kit.
he might charge u alot for that so make sure he dont **** with u.

A quart of paint can cost anywhere from around forty bucks(like black or white) to over a couple hundred(like hologram) depending on the color and if you're doing single stage or BC/CC. For yours I'd say closer to the forty. Just go to the local auto paint supply store and give 'em your code and tell 'em what your doing. They'll be able to give you an idea how much you'll need. If you want the paint to be as close as possible, find out if they do the computer color matching and if they do, take the gas door off and give it to them for something to match to.
The 'German' paint the other guy was probably thinking of is Glasurit. Another high end paint is Spies Hecker. Both of these are at the higher quality end of the stick, but are harder to spray unless you're a pro(very easy to run). I don't know your level of skill, but judging by this post I'd say you're fairly new at it. Stick with something easy to spray like PPG or Du Pont that will look just as nice as the high end paint and last just as long. Stay away from the cheap stuff!
