Now, remove the screws holding the backing on the cluster.

Now the bulbs. The t1.5 bulbs are a direct replacement for the ones in the stock gauge cluster. The only problem is polarity. LED's for behind the gauges and odometer go with the red sticker facing down. I think this is the anode, but haven't done any electronics stuff for a couple years and can't remeber to well. If you get the LEDs from superbrightleds.com the red sticker goes down for these. For other lights, fasten seat-belt, low gas, open door, etc... Have the red sticker facing up.
This pic shows which leds I replaced, looking up from bottom of cluster.

so are all the numbers and redline areas now blue? It's hard to tell in your pic. Got another? (trust- I know it's a PITA to take that pic. I've posted about a dozen)

Wasn't able to get a good clean pic yet, but the redline areas are still slightly orange, the plastic itself is colored in those areas.

it's only 20 bucks, and it's worth it to me.

This is what I got last year when I removed the condoms and used some theatre gel (heavy colored cellophane stuff). It comes in literally hundreds of colors. Be creative! My wife wants me to try purple if the blue comes out well. I also bought the t1.5s and the #74 flat LEDs. If I ever get my car back from the body shop I'll post pics.
This is a totally worthwhile change. a good color job gets lotsa looks from other Lancer owners and peeps in the know

I finally got my car back and almost immediately installed the t1.5s with the #74 wide angle LEDs. Wow. What a disappointment. Sure, I kinda know when I'm going 20 MPH or 120MPH (the needle doesn't glow anymore) and I know when I'm at 2K RPM or in the redline.

I talked to an electrical engineer/theatre lighting design friend of mine. He advised that I try scoring the top of the LED or shaving it so the light comes out the sides better. I'll keep you all posted- if I feel like taking the instrument cluster out again.

OK, gonna have a few posts now. Correction to above, there are three screws holding the cluster in. Sorry for the mistake. Here's the first picture, camera still wasn't taking good pics, but you can get the general idea. I'll try using my camcorder to get a good pic when I put it back together tonite.
If that's it, I'll stick with stock.
