under the hood techniques?
Well, got a turbo kit, going to put headers soon.. so this is the perfect time to clean up that turbo.. i dont really like the way the heatwrap and the thing that connects to the header heat shield looks.. i dont wanna take it off or anything but i wanna polish things.. like how kontradictions looks like... (i know.. biter, but it looks nice)...
so just curious for those people wish RRM turbo's that fixed the heat wrap on the up pipe and down pipe, what did you rewrap it with?? and how would you got about polishing something like the turbo manifold??
oh and last thing.. anyone know where to get a black valve cover for our cars or do i have to take mine off and have it painted?? thanks.. plz give me any opinions, suggestions, or criticism you guys might have..m

actually in shows or at least showing it off to people, if they think the heat wrap looks ugly, just tell them of the importance it gives to your motor ans turbo setup. I have seen tons of cars/show cars with heat wrap along there entire header and hell even there entire exhaust piping. Heat wrap "can" look good if you use it properly and take your time wraping whatever u decide to wrap!
If it is aluminum, it should be fairly easy to polish. Just get a polishing kit from www.eastwoodcompany.com and they will supply you with what you need.....if you have questions, they can help you out also. Aluminum is easy to polish, you just need to do it when you have some time to kill and are not in a rush to get it done. Keep in mind, once polished, it does take regular upkeep to keep it looking good. There are also some treatments you can use to protect the polished parts, but I do not know how that will hold up to heat.
polishing the turbo housing is an option, like i did. I did the polishing myself and it was pretty straight forward, but it took some time. I spent about 4 hours polishing that piece alone. The piece is cast aluminum so it will polish up nicely if you choose to. Since it is cast aluminum there is a textured layer that needs to be sanded down hard, i used a dremel tool and a sanding bit, then after that i sat and wetsanded the entire piece moving from a low 400 grit all the way up to a 1500 grit for a fine finish. After that i used a polish wheel and compounds to give it that luster you wanna achieve. Looks good and here is a sample of the finished product....
