Thumbs up Review: MTEC 4x Superwhite 80/100 bulbs

Product: MTEC Superwhite 4x (80/100 W) 9007 bulbs
Country of origin: Label says Tokyo, Japan. But my own sources tell me Taiwan.
Price: 2 pairs for $20 plus shipping, bidpay payment etc...so $15 a pair.

Label claims a color temp of 4350K which should be white and without any hint of blue. This turns out to be pretty accurate. If you stare at the light (briefly of course...it's BRIGHT), you'll see some blue spots near the centre of the light which is the reflection of the blue-tinted bulb on the back of the reflection surface. But on the road the color and intensity of the light is probably comparable to say an Audi A4, which is HID but without the Bimmer style reflection lens to make the light appear blue/purple from a distance. Anyway the color improvement over stock bulbs is very dramatic. As for brightness, these seem to be somewhat brighter than the stock bulbs, but not that much brighter, which pleases me A LOT since I don't want to get pulled over and have my bulbs checked for overwattage.

Although the bulbs are 80/100W, neither the headlight case nor the wires seem to get very hot after my 45 min commute from work. This was kinda surprising to me, as I was prepared to shop for heavy duty harnesses right after work. Now I will test these bulbs with the stock harnesses for a few days and then make a decision.

As usual pics don't do much justice when comparing light intensity/color. But I think you guys might be interested so here it is.

You can see a small but visible difference in the color, but in real life the stock bulb is way more yellow than in the pic. Brightness is improved but not by a lot. I'd say they look more like 65W. So these 80/100W bulbs look right for our cars. MTEC makes a 55/65W version of this bulb but that may be too dim.

jennz03: you have the 80/100 bulbs too? Would you offer some comments regarding:

- How long have these bulbs lasted for you?
- If you're using the 80/100 version without wiring harness upgrade, do you find any overheating problems?
- so the intensity is dimming...how bout color?
