Console Lights All-In-One How-To
hey dude there is an easier way to do the bulbs on the gauge cluster
instead of prying off the needels and stuff you just disconect it and take off the bakc plate and the bulbs come out from the back

Dunno if it's been noted yet, but the bulbs behind the cluster are NOT 194's. They are proprietary and need to be covered with condoms. I broke one while trying to see what it was and the dealer charges 6 bucks for a replacement. Auto Zone and Pep Boys never heard of that type of light. It MAY be possible to swap the bulb out with an LED but you would have to check the power requirements so you don't fry your gauge circuit board. None of the bulbs listed for purchase fit the guage cluster, though so be warned. The bulbs are also not a standard size for condoms bought at Pep Boys or Auto Zone.
I was incorrect, you can buy replacements for your guage lights here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...gi?product=CAR
They are LEDs, as well, so you'll get better color clarity than the stock incandescents, which are wrapped in a red color condom.

Not true at all. The only red numbers are the ones at the highest RPM and Speeds. The rest are clear plastic and the light behind them is red. I know this for certain ebcause I have taken my Dash apart and removed the red condoms from my gauge lights. The numbers are now the color of the basic amber incandescent light, not the red they were stock. As soon as my blue LEDs get delivered, I'll be changing them to that.

Now that the gauges are exposed, gently pry out the needles, remove the gauges, and replace the two bulbs shown. I didn't finish this part, because I left mine the stock colour.

I replaced the key ring light. Take out the three screws in the bottom, pop apart the trim and the bulb is on top of the ignition switch, look for the wire going into the bulb holder (like the one for the cigarette lighter) and unscrew it, pop out and replace with one of the bulbs like for the cigarette lighter. Looks great!
i removed my gauge cluster and was unable to change the bulbs cause they are one piece, but was able to change the clock bulb the reb and it has a more reder color than before. I then placed that bulb where i wasnt unable to change and it fits and it also became brighter. So ill have to go to the dealer adn get three of those bulb holders so i can place the new red bulbs in it. then put then into the cluster.
Oh also just did the key light mod and it took 5 min! looks nice

You cannot change the color of the bulbs in the cluster without either buying colored replacements from the link I posted above, buying color condoms for the bulbs that are currently there, or performing electronic surgery to make other blubs fit. I doubt that last option is beasible at all.
Awesome write-up! Thanks Kareem for linking me to this. At first I wanted to change just the dome light, then I wanted to do the AC controls too, and now you show me the radio, lighter, ignition ring. I want as many interior lights in my car to be red, not just because it would look cool but because it's the only color light that does not dialate the eyes. This way my navigator can read maps while I drive in good vision, or vice versa.
Oh, and I'm gonna see if LancerEvoMR can put a version of this in how-to (if it's not there already, I'm off to check).
