Rim problems....
Rim problems....
Ok, Im really pissed right now so forgive me if my explination is far from understandable. So a month ago, I got a set of TSW Fury's and today I went to the Tire Rack to get a set of Yokohama AVS ES100s mounted. Well everything goes ok, they get done, put the rims on the car, and I drive off. Well a bit down the road, I notice the wheel is shaking a bit, but I chaulk it up to new sticky rubber following highway grooves. Well then it really starts shaking, so I pull off. Now I watched the guy at the Tire Rack torque the lugs, so I know they are tight, right? Nope. Luckily I had my torque wrench, so I tighten them. But then I shake the rims, and they are moving independantly of the hub, even though the rims are torqued to 80 ft-lbs.
So I go back to the Tire Rack, and they take the rims off to see whats going on. Well the rims are not seating properly on the hub, the hub has a raised part in the center, and the rim is not big enough in the middle to go over that part. So basically the raised part on the hub is keeping the rims from seating.
They guy told me I could get the center part of the rim swapped out to a bigger piece, (cant remember the name) but I mean these are new rims! I understand most stores have a policy of not taking rims back once they have tires mounted on them, but I test fit these things and they looked ok, I mean how do I know they are going to rattle loose unless I mount tires and drive down the road?
So I dont really know what to do, because I dont know how the rim place will react. (Cheapwheels.com, basically a liquidator of older style TSW rims) They seem ok, but I dont want to say the wrong thing and screw myself. Another option is to just sell the rims and tires as a package, and start fresh. Or I can get the rims centers changed, but I mean has anyone even heard of this problem, or how easy it is to fix???
Needless to say, Im super pissed. If it matters to anyone though, the rims looked really good for the time they were on the car, and the tires are pretty nice. Ugggg, first I cant get my second cat off, now this. Anyone want an OZ Rally????J/K

Yeah, i know im a little off topic, but ive had my OZ Rally for a 2 months just over 2000 miles and boy is it getting on my nerves, every performance parts is waaaaay overpriced and impossible to find. And if you do find it its sold out or ****ty or must be ordered from japan tacking on another $$$ for shipping. ERRR
And no, im not mad that i dont have an evo ( i know someone is going to say it ) . Im in college.

OK, I dont know if anyone will care, but Ill answer my own problem just in case anyone has this problem in the future. I started looking at the rim, and looked towards the center and it appeared that there was a ring that was not piece of the rim in the middle of the hub.
(The reason I looked was because a guy at Tire Rack was arguing with me when I came back with my rims loose that the rims were not hubcentric, and that was the problem. I looked up what hubcentric was, and it basically means the rims centers on the car with the hub, not just the studs. So I knew my rims were hubcentric for sure, which is why I started exploring the centers of the rims. Just a tip, you have problems at the Tire Rack, dont let them blame your rims, car, etc. for being crappy. They need to learn just because a kid is there, it doesnt mean they dont know anything.)
Getting back to that center piece, I noticed it was a small ring speperate from the rim, and it had two diameter measurements etched in it. (One for outer diameter, one for inner) Well I do more research and find out that hub rings (the tech name) are replaceable and taylored to individual cars. So now all I have to do is get a set of new hub rings that will fit the Lancer, have a shop switch them out, (they are pressed and or glued in, cant do it myself) and remount the rims on the car. The only problem I have now is finding out what inner diameter I need. The guy at the tire rack measured the pieces on the hubs of the car with calipers and came out with 67.44 mm, but I just want to be sure.
Like I said, I just thought Id answer my own question so if this happens to anyone in the future, they will know why, and how to fix it.
(BTW, most rims on the market are lugcentric, meaning the studs on the car will center the rims so this problem will never occure. Supposedly this allows the rims to fit a larger variety of cars, but since hub rings are swappable, I dont see that as being totally truthful.)
