i have 2004 es lancer..

i was wondering if i can get 18x8 235/35 R18 ..... i will use a spacer and will work out the fenders..

do u think this wud work..? this is really important..

i really need grip..my car has a FWD evo engine......(spinning)

and if not..what mods can i do to make it work.

From what you're saying, it sounds like you want more traction when launching rather than grip when cornering. if that's the case, the advantage given by the wider contact patch could be canceled out by having so little sidewall. I'm pretty sure that smaller wheels are better for traction, maybe you should try going for wide 16's or 17's instead.

Then again, i would wait until someone else posts to be sure I'm not giving you false information.

thats good info...and it makes sense..its good to know this..

i calculated the difference between 17's and 18's..if we assumed

235/40 R17
235/35 R18

sidewall difference will be 0.5"

does this count..? does it make a huge difference in traction..what do u think.?

It should give better traction; as far as how much though, you'd need someone who's had both wheel sizes, and even then it might not be easy to tell.

i have another question...?

if i have two wheels

1st
18x7 offset +38 it fits on the lancer perfectly...lets say backspace is 5.5" and wheel with tire diameter is 25"

2nd wheel

18x8.5 offset +19 backspace 5.5" wheel with tire diameter will be the same 25"..in this case the wheel will be shifted to the street side (i will deal with the fenders)

my question is...will it fit..is that it..or is there anything i have to worry abt..like when i turn the steering right or left..?

That offset seems way out there. I doubt even with the fender problem it out of the way, it won't fit.

i made some calculations i am sure they are correct..

this is the current wheel used..
18x7.5
Offset = 38 mm
Width = 7.5" =190.5 mm
Centerline = 95.25 mm
Backspace = 146 mm = 5.74"
forward spacing =2.753"

so as far as the new back spacing is less than this 5.74" it wont hit the inner fenders..

18x8.5
Offset = 25 mm (this offset is available)
Width = 8.5" = 215.9 mm
Centerline = 107.95 mm
Backspace = 154.65 = 5.73"
Forward spacing = 95.65 = 3.76"

the resualt of this is...

the wheel will be almost the same from the inner side...and will be 1 inch wider from the street side...

but what i think is...those calculations wont do me any good when i pay $2000 or more for wheels and tires..and then wont fit..so basiclly..i wont go for any rims .. i'll just wait..unless someone gives me an answer..

i am running 215/45 r17 17x7 everything is more than fine and the car used to be lowered..like 1" from the tire to the fenders....

the 8" width...fits the lancer ... 18x8 wheels fit....am not sure what offset..
but i found a guy running 18x8 on a oz rally lancer....4 lug....

I know in one thread there was a guy with either 17 or 18 inch wheels with 38 offset with a 5 mm spacer. He didn't rub and I think he was lowered. He did put on a 10 mm spacer and the did rub the outside in the back. not sure about the front.

I have 215/35/18 with a 42offset on my car and i was wondering if i should get a 5mm spacer? WOuld that be enough?

I tried both 215/45 and 205/45...

215/45 will work well if you don't lower the ride height, but if you do, expect rubbing everywhere, front and rear.


205/45 won't rub at all, but if you notice the relation to the fender, it will look kind of small.


My last choice was 215/40. These fit perfectly, lowered or not, and their relation to the fender size looks appropiate. I do feel some rubbing, but it's only when the steering wheel is fully turned to either side, touching the plastic splash guard, not the fender persay.
