have any of you guys had to change your brakes yet and if so how many miles were on your car when you changed them?

also did you change them yourself or go to a brake shop?

I changed mine over about a month ago... the old ones were worn down a lot and due for changing. I only had about 11K miles on mine. The stock brakes suck for wear... they are very soft material!

I just past 17,000 miles, and my brakes have about 40% left. But I'm going to put some carbon/kevlar pads on since I am doing a road race in a couple of weeks, and don't want to heat glaze some stock pads half way through. After that, I'll probably get slotted rotors.

i replaced my brakes at 8,000 miles. not because the pads were worn, even tho they were, but because i had dismounted the right side caliper and it was grinding my rotor down. imagine what a thousand screaming cats would sound like. thats my brakes. now im at 23,700 mi and i replaced them again because they sounded kinda squeeky. this time tho i got smart and replaced both pads and rotors with powerslot made by brembo and porterfield carbon kevlar pads. they're still in the seating process but i already notice a difference. can't wait to lock 'em up on the freeway!

If I understand what he is saying then he is speaking of the break in period. You dont want to just put your breaks on and run the hell out of your car stopping. You want to slowly heat them and cool them. If you dont it causes an effect known as glazing which as you can guess from the name it puts sort of a layer of **** on the pads and makes them much less effective than they can/should be. Not sure why he wants to lock them up onthe freeway but hey it would be fun to watch.

i just changed my original break pads at 22,000 miles, i have no idea what you guys are doing to your pads but i put my breaks through hell, just a regular ol' lead foot. Anyhow, my dad took the breaks off and replaced them. Its no big deal and is ALOT cheaper than taking them to a shop. Id do them myself if i were you. Its not that hard, after replacing everything, dont forget to pump that break pedal a few times to build the break fluid up.
