Tires for Life Program
Tires for Life Program
Not sure how many of you have this or not. But when i got my lancer in April 2007, it came with my car. I didn't have to pay extra for it. Well I never was told about the stipulations with this program. 2 months ago I went in to cash in on that program and get my 4 (crappy dunlop stock) tires replaced after about a month or so talking with the SCM and waiting till my tread was 2/32. I go in to find out that he's no longer there and whatever deal i had setup with him was out the window. The new SCM tells me that since i hadn't done my oil change there my TFL program was null\void. So me doing my oil myself 2 times caused me to loose any chance of getting the tires for free and only paying for mounting\balancing. Just thought I would let you guys know this.
I've never heard of that but u should go look thru your paper work from when you bought the car. See if there is anything on the TFL and any fine print about oil changes voiding it. If there isn't they are probably trying to cheap out on you. If it is on your contract and both you and them signed it, and you didn't somehow void it, they got to honor it. They are probably just hoping you say oh well and pay for them.
If this is anything like the TFL program my wife got with her Mini, it is through a 3rd party. The dealership she got the car at sold it to her but then was bought out and the new owners did not participate in this program.
It was not void but she had look through the paperwork and find places that did participate in this program. Her's is through Milenium or something like that and various NTB's and other tire shops are authorized for the maintenance and replacement, but they won't be very familiar with it (at least in my experience) when you go. So I would recommend you look at the paperwork and see if you have other options.
At the end of the day though, after my wife's experience, I would advise anyone to not buy these programs when you get a new car. It won't be worth the hassle and they will make it difficult to recoupe what you spent on it. Lucky for you it was included and you didn't have to pay a over $1k for it when you got the car...

Also there are probably a lot of stipulations with the program, (like getting the tires rotated by an authorized place every 5000 miles) and if you didn't follow these they will probably try an void it. At least that is how my wife's is.
I was told about a TFL program when I bought some tires for my Jeep.
Bwesley82 is right about having the tires rotated by authorized place. From what the guy told me was that the tires needed to be rotated normally (usually every oil change) and that it must be done at a authorized shop and ALL receipts must be retained so that you can prove you maintained the tires for the duration of their lives.
If you ask me it's a bunch of bull sh**. It's more hassle than it's worth and would probably end up costing you more for the maintenance of the tires than buying new tires would cost anyways.

Like I said i got the program with my car free, now you have to pay extra for it. Not sure if it was with every dealer or not. As far as the stipulations to the program, when i had gone up there to talk to the new CSM he had given me a certificate that lined out all the requirements for the program. Its too bad they didn't give it to me when i got my car.
