I Need Help!

Ok so I bought a Front Strur Bar, and Rear Strut Bar from Ebay. I installed both yesterday. Yes the Front Strut Bar has fitment issue's but I installed it anyway. Here's the problem. There is a little plastic clip thingie that the strut bar is pressing down on at the very top of the engine. Well last night my Engine Service Soon light came on. I started to worry so I looked at my Temperature gauge, and RPM's when stopped and both were fine. I assumed it was from the Strut Bar. I opened the hood and noticed that this plastic piece on top that the Strut Bar was pressing down on unclipped. I can't re-connect it cause of the pressure. I plan on taking off the Strut Bar tomorrow and plugging the piece back in. What is that unit for? Also I know a few people have done something to make this Strut Bar fit better. What can I do? I also get this grinding/screachy noise, assuming it's because the Strut Bar is rubbing against something. Anyone with suggestions? Thanks for your help.

pics would be good and make it easier to understand what you are talking about. if you go to autozone, they can pull the code for you, supposedly for free. i would just notch a little bit out to the bar with a dremel or drill to give it some clearance. keep in mind that the car still flexes and you'll have to notch a little more out than you think to make up of that flex. i've never had a grind/screech from my RRM k-bar.

He didn't buy an RRM K bar.

I'd recommend against notching or cutting any load bearing parts. I know other people have done it this way, but it's just not a good idea to put a weak point inso something designed to bear stress.

Already spoke to Ryan on the phone about this. I'll check the manual tonight you want, but you'll have to shoot me an IM or something right after work so that I don't forget. I won't be around most of the weekend so if you want me to check tonight, just leave a msg on AIM or hit me up around 5:45-6:15. Oh, or just shoot me another call.

Thanks HObie. That is not an RRM bar he is talking about. Problem with some of these ebay bars are that they are not necessarily made for Lancer. They are more generic. Hence there are problems. Post a pic so we can see where it is hitting.

No prob. Yeah, they seem to match up with the strut towers just fine, but they have clearance issues with the intake manifold and the plastic thing atop it (which I believe is a mechanism related to the optional cruise control, but I'm not certain).

Problem is with engine torque it can hit and damage delicate parts like that.

I'll try and take a pic tomorrow cause by the time I get home from work it'll be dark out. Anyway Rock I will eventually purchase your K-Bar, just couldn't afford it right now due to Christmas shopping. Andrew I appreciate all your help as well. Funny thing is when I start my car it seems to make a louder noise. Maybe I am just hearing things. Who the hell knows.

The plastic thing may have been plugging a hole in the intake manifold (I dunno for certain) or you may just have an entirely separate problem. I'd get the code pulled if I were you just to be certain.

Rawgod5581 - take the strut bar immediately. it will BREAK that sensor and you will be out more than $200 to replace it. Read my parts review on the strut bar, I am 100% confident that you are having the EXACT same issue in which I did.

REMOVE THE STRUT BAR ASAP UNLESS YOU WANT THAT SENSOR TO BREAK. See pics:

Not too sure. That's what Hobie thought. My car runs fine with it disconnected, but I am going to re-connect it tomorrow.
