Suspension?
Suspension?
Hey guys, I own a 02' ES which I just had fitted out with an RMR Lip Type 1, OZ Skirts, and a set of new 17" rims. My next mod which should have came a lot sooner is of course my suspension. My budget is very limited because of the current installs I just had done, but I was wondering will the handling of my lancer be really bad with just Progress Springs installed? I eventually plan on getting a K-Bar, and Rear anti-sway bar, but with the way things are looking I may not be able to afford those until the summer (Too many B-days, 2 Proms coming up, and INSURANCE is due
), but the gap in my wheel wells is obviously horrible. So what do you guys think? Will it hurt my car to just have springs installed now, or could it possibly improve it? If things work out I may be able to afford the K-Bar too, but I highly doubt it. Help me out guys! Thanks a lot!
(I have read a lot of reviews on the Progress Springs for the ES, and I notice a lot of people just have springs installed with no other mods, but I need a little more assurance or advice. And sorry guys, but no I will not wait to buy a Coil Over system lol, so don't suggest it, my budget is limited.)

the progress may make handling better, in the sense that you are lowering the center of gravity. the shocks won't be tuned to those springs though, causing a bumpier and bouncier ride. Also, the shocks will go sometime too..so i dunno if u wanna spend moeny on replacement shocks..if you dont, i really recommend getting the Tein Basics kit. It comes with adjustable ride height and a set of tuned shocks to go along with it. Yes, it maye be 800-900 bucks, but a set of shocks to replace will probably be more than that in the long run.
I would really wait to gather up some money, why can't you wait??

Well honestly the wheel well is just killing me, my car is so high off the ground. Not sure if it's because my car hasn't had a chance to settle with the 17's because I had to take them off due to horrible weather in NYC, but I didn't have too much time to check them out when they were on. My problem isn't as much time as it is money. I am a senior in High School and I have way too many financial things going on right now. I have insurance payments due, B-days, 2 Proms (Mine and my G/F's), trip to Bahamas, and I need to buy a laptop for college. So my money is pretty much spent already that's why 800-900 will kill me for that kit. How long will my current shocks last with Progress Springs installed?
Get the Eibach Pro Kit, it's plenty of a drop, and it won't murder your shocks.. if you use the progress springs you are more than likely going to murder shocks and need to dish out the 700 to replace them with stock shocks or spend 900 for basic coilover combo to replace them.
If you can wait about a month and a half I'll sell you my Eibach's pretty damn cheap.

i have dropzone springs and my car handled like a dream... for about a month and a half, then the shocks were dead. those springs lowered my car 1.75". i need shocks BAD but there are absolutely NO aftermarket shocks, besides complete kits. so im kinda in the same boat as you.
well thanks a lot for the information petey pab, I will definately not be ordering the Progress Springs at all unless someone can convince me. I guess I will have to wait to get a kit, and I will take that money and just buy an SRI for now I guess.
Just because I will not have my 17's on for a while because of this never ending snow, does anyone have a picture of their car with 17's and no suspension upgrades? Thanks a lot!

Well I double checked on the Eibach's they do not fit an ES Lancer, the Progress springs drop an ES 1.7 all the way around, tein s-tech, I am not sure. Can anyone help with those numbers?
Tein - decent drop, decent ride and decent price, the least complaints.
Eibach - a bit more expensive, but definitely nice ride, altho some people have complained about the squeaking noise they make, and that includes me.
Progress - could be the cheapest, nice drop, the ride's okay, and have complaints about squeaking too.
truth: Eibach and Progress have the same drop.
Yes the progress has a LOWER INITIAL DROP, and it just takes a while longer for the Eibach to finally settle down to have the same drop as the progress.
