Spring rates

Hey guys

I just did a search and there is a lot of info on springs. I understand that the majority of you are saying to go with the coilovers from TEIN but I just wanna know more about springs.

Is there a compiled summary list of all of the springs available for the Lancer OZ and like what is the drop and price and stuff like that?

I mean for me the biggest factor is drop rate/height? I want to slam it down low, cause I love the drive the car, not to ride in it.

I think the same should be done for stuff like sway bars, strut braces and also ebay items should be addressed. I mean are they really that cheap or are they really just cheap??

thanks so much for all of your help
just finished converting my interior lights to red to make it all match

I don't know if all of the spring manufacturers publish the spring rates, but I know if you look at the Tein website www.tein.com , they list the rates of the springs on their coilover kits, as well as the optional spring rates (including dual spring rates) for each size. I would find the websites of all the spring manufacturers and see if they list specs on individual springs, and also find out which ones use progressive spring rates and which don't.

If you're just concerned about the drop, you should know that anything more than a 2" drop will actually IMPAIR your handling, not improve it, AND damage your shocks. So, you'd need to relocate the control arms to drop it safely. But if you just want a slammed Lancer to look cool, and you don't care about being able to steer or having functional shocks, go right ahead and cut your lowering springs or get Mirage springs or something. Just don't say we didn't warn you.

easy there bro...i know that the bolt coilovers suck
have heard too many bad reviews about them being too boucny and stuff like that

as far as springs, in my last car I had OMP springs that had a drop rating of 1.75"...it was really nice. car was slammed so much i had to remove my mudguards.

BTW anybody who knows anything about cars, knows u just don't cut springs, its stupid

can't compare last car to this car since the struts/shocks were upgraded to bilsteins hd, really nice pieces.

so I have to go to all of the websites and find out for myself???
i mean if this is really a lancer forum, this stuff should be available...all available springs with there advertised lowering factor.

out of curiosity...does anybody have any plans to make struts for us???

thanks

I understand exactly what you are talking about kensuke. I've been on a quest to try and find non progressive springs that are 450 LB front with 200 LB rear with not too much luck so far. I'm trying to eliminate the FWD understeer on my AutoX car.

bmw, I have successfully eliminated understeer on my lowered Lancer. The trick is more front camber than the rear. I don't know what model car you're in, but on the Lancer it seems that having the rear camber half of the front (mine is -1.5 and -.75) makes a very balanced and controllable car. Some evidence to support that is my recent trophy in the STS class after making these adjustments.

Kensuke, I don't really understand spring rates. I just know what rate came on my kit, and what the company offers that is softer and firmer. Until I found a decent camber setting, I was thinking of putting softer springs up front. Now I can run the dampeners around the same level so I don't need to change it.

Agreed, but since I didn't know your exact plans for the car, I gave you all of your options. I mean, if someone wants to "slam" their car (to me, that means the body kit is almos rubbing the ground) they might as well cut springs because the shocks are going to die in a few days anyway Glad to know you know better though

Urban, I have an '01 Mirage coupe. I may have to try that trick. I've FINALLY got the rest of my suspension bits from Whiteline today. (2 month wait) I got the adjustible rear bar that I'm going to try at full hard in the rear first before I do a re-alignment.

You and David (fastmitsu18) might want to compare notes. He's in a Mirage with Tein coilovers and a few goodies, and has discussed suspension settings with me before each race (looks like he likes the rear set a little softer than me). He's just starting up in autocross, but getting better each time.
