z rated means you can go over 150MPH for 10 minutes before you can expect the tread to separate. w is slightly lower, like 130. V means you can go up to 149MPH for 10 minutes... Lancers don't even go that fast. So, I'd recommend the lighter tire if you can get that info or the tire with the lower treadwear number (lower = more sticky) .

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.

Now the speed ratings are for continuous speed, not necessarily top speed, correct?

all speed ratings are "up to" figures for continuous speed for 10 minutes IIRC. Except "Z" which is the nebulous "149MPH and over" If you plan to go over 149MPH I think you're into race compounds.... and I want video!

Whoops!! Here's some good info from http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbi...ion_bible.html

s=113MPH
t=118MPH
u=125MPH
H=130MPH
v=150MPH
w=168MPH
z=150+ MPH

Sorry about the minor confusion.... a little knowledge But whatever, if you manage to have your Lancer go over your tires speed ratings, I want a snapshot of the speedo and a copy of the ticket the cop writes you
