Question Shocks

Shocks Shocks Shocks why is it that only one company RMR sells them and there not even adjustable. For that price in the area of $450 depending on the dealership you call plus S/H you would get adjustable shocks. There has to be some other Mitsubishi car that shares are shocks and struts that we have I can not think of Mitsubishi would say hey lets totally redesign the shocks for this car. I for one don’t have a dealership in the area that will get parts from RMR so in turn I have to call a dealership in CA to order the part for me have it shipped to them and then shipped to me. Anyone see the problem in this? I mean company’s like KYB, Tokico, or Bistein all make shocks for other Mitsubishi cars maybe there is a cross over shock that will fit who knows. Maybe someone out there does???? So I guess what I am asking in my ranting and raving is does anyone know if any other shocks from any other cars will fit are cars. Oh and maybe some cross drilled rotors. Please if you are going to tell me to buy the Tein kit from RRM I don’t know about you but I don’t have that kind of money to spend plus I spent money on springs so why would I want to go spend more on something I already have?

Run a search. Tein and JIC Magic both make complete coilovers for the US Lancer. And FYI the shocks RMR sells are KYB's.

EDIT: Don't ask who sells the JIC Magics, but I've heard of them. There's also another company whose name has escaped me that makes coilovers.

Sorry Hobie but I have been on the fourm for some time now and I know that this has not been talked about befor. all i have seen were kits and reviews on the ones RMR sells. I dont need or want a coilover kit I want adjustable shocks. I thought for sure that RMR sold raliart (sp) are they made my KYB ? I know the stock shoks on the OZ are KYB, not sure about the ES or LS.

I don't see why you'd need adjustable shocks but not better springs. You could always call a Tein or JIC distributor and see if they could just get you the shocks.

Well the main reason being the roads in the town I am in suck lots of bumps and I don’t want to be shaken to death so with adjustable ones I can soften them up for city driving and then when I go to auto-x it I can stiffen them up. There is a method behind my madness and also I would think the Eibach springs were pretty good. But teamed up with the stock shocks makes for a very bouncy ride and if you hit and decent bump in the road the car takes a good wallop

You just can't expect things to cross over since with car weights varying from model to model you've got different valving in the shocks and then you've got worry about spring diameter and mounts as well as brake caliper mounts to. Lots o' different variables. I myself or others have hit up KYB (latest response is the GR-2 shock as a maybe, no word on the AGX) and H&R (Cup Kit on the horizon) for parts and the responses look like the best option is to wait if you don't want a high zoot setup like JIC or Tein. Heck, try to get a hold of Koni (couldn't find a way of contacting) or Tokico (someone called and they didn't seem interested) if you want yourself.

Good point .. just got off the phone with Koni they dont have any idea of them making any as of yet. Called Tokico but there was nobody there. i guess it is just to soon for shock for are cars not good when you have a blown out shock and need to get it replaced.

I can get koni single and double adjustable inserts but I will need one front and rear strut to get the proper sizing.

Thanks

What boters me is why KYB only makes the Ralliart **** and not some other label like AGX or GS2 or whatever they are.

They're existing parts from KYB Japan. KYB USA has yet to step up to the plate. Harass them. p and I already tried and were flatly denied.

KYB ain't the only one. H&R is hopefully working on a Cup Kit but that's just rate matched springs and struts which is actually a bad *** deal, but not adjustable. That's definitely a good option to the high dollar Tein and JIC options. If we can find anyone who's bought the RMR struts or the Tein kit (dont' think anyone has JIC yet), perhaps we could convince them to sent one front and one back shock unit to a company so they can dissect it. SO technically one car would be able to supply 2 companies with R&D material... Need to try and call Tokico again...so much good stuff they have.

Give a call to the Guy at 805-527-1137 or 805-279-1338 as his cell. You can get more info at: http://www.ankenyracing.com. He can build you singles, doubles or triples and that would be for the Penske shocks.

Good luck!

To fix this thing, you need to have separate adjustments for the high and low speed compression, which will lead you to the triple adjustable shocks. Ones you get that, you don't need to change the settings between the street and autoX (well, maybe a bit of the rebound to make things more quick!).

Good luck!

therein lies the problem No one is willing to send me the struts to reverse engineer them. getting the struts is no problem however price will be around $150 a corner. but I won't be able to tell till I get the parts here.
