Lightbulb Right Hand Drive Conversion?

This is probably in the wrong forum and if it is then go ahead and move it, but I was just wondering how impossible it would be to do a right hand drive conversion on an 02 OZ... Go ahead and tell me how crazy I am! Yeah.. I love to be crazy!

Not worth the effort/cost of tracking down parts from Japan.

i think the toughest part would be relocating the dash/instrument cluser .. pedals, steering wheel .. all that crap. And .. you'd also haveta figure out something on how to re-do the clutch, brakes and gas pedals .. as well as figuring out how to relay the steering wheel position to the power steering box so you can turn.

I think that it wouldnt be worth the cost to do it .. but if you've got 10k burning a hole in your pocket go for it! :P I would think that you could do quite a bit to the car and have it upgraded for both show and go for the same kinda $$ ..

Just out of curiousity, what then would be the easy part of the conversion? Is it all "the toughest part?" ;-)

The easy part would be the conversion. The hard part would be paying for all the parts.

BTW, if you couldn't tell, that was a joke. It would all be difficult.

Joke? Nah... if you just pay someone to do it, it's really easy. Drop your car off with me and roughly $75,000. I'm sure with those resources, I could find all the parts you need and more importantly, I'd be driving an Evo soon ;-)

the easiest part would be rotating the tires so they work right with RHD.

j/k

I was really just trying to give examples of what would be needed and that it would cost wayy more than it would be worth it.

That coolness is there, but fades quickly. While I find it not too difficult adjusting to the other side, launching a car is a little odd and unnatural. When I launch my car, I get the first shift point and pull the stick down hard, and I have a very quick shift. In RHD, you can't "pull" from 1st to 2nd. Instead, you have to to a tricep extension and move the shifter toward the passenger side - it's unnatural and a little slower.

But hey, that's just me... you have my money yet?

i wish i had that much money.. then i'd just buy a skyline GTR or a JDM Evo.... Then I'd have a supercar and a RHD!! lol.. I've never driven a car with RHD, but it looks like it'd be fun. I don't think i'd have too awful a time adjusting, but never know!

It's not too bad to adjust to most things, but something that bugged me a lot is that there isn't a standard side of the steering column for blinkers and wipers. In some cars, they'll be the mirror of left hand drive, with blinkers still closer to the window, and sometimes they'll stay on the left side of the steering column. If they mirror it, you're better off, since you can leave one hand on the stickshift and then it's a natural motion to use the blinkers.

Like the previous post it's basically the same its still clutch brake gas from left to right and you shift with your other hand and hit the wipers everytime you want the blinker. I lived in japan for a few years with the navy and had a 91 integra 5sp RHD. It would be odd driving here like that because you would actually feel like your on the wrong side of the road.

Yes, you'd have to be very careful, at least at first, not to go into oncoming traffic. Driving on the left feels natural only when you're sitting on the right - it's better for vision to be closer to the double lines.
