Clutch & flywheel review?
OK, no one has really posted a "I upgraded and here's my thoughts" thread.
Anyone?
I'm looking at the different clutches and flywheels that are becoming available for the Lancer and wondering if I really need either. Could someone give their thoughts on an upgrade? Everyone I PM to ask just ignores it.

not sure about the clutch, but the flywheel sounds promising, but expect to sacrafice your gas mileage big time. Thats the only thing that is keeping my fromt getting it because I do alot of commuting.

no, its because of the lack of rotating mass. any moving mass caries momentum with it, hence as to why your stock car rolls so well when you let off the gas, you can go pretty far on a flat road before you slow down too much. So the answer of higher revs is right in a way, since your can require more power to cruise now, you have to maintain a higher rev to keep going the same speed you want. and if you let off the gas expect to slow down very quickly. This is why the stock flywheels are so heavy, for the gas mileage.

Ask Viciouz? He just put on the flywheel and the stage 2 clutch. When I talked to him the other day he say it felt awesome. With the flywheel the revs puck up quicker and the throttle response is great. He saud the clutch feels great compared to the stock one. See if you can get him on here to post something about it.
I have the RRM stage 2 cluch and pressure plate. I love it, it is a great cluch for the performace minded driver who still needs to drive their car every day but wants a clutch that can really grab. It can be a bit noisier than the stock set up but it is a really great upgrade I give it an 8.5 out of 10.

How does the performance change? Pedal feel different at all? Could you describe the difference in clutch feel? How is it noisier (I've never heard my clutch, to my knowledge)?
Well let me first say that the pedal is A LOT heavier so you have to be willing to deal with that on a daily basis but I was used to the twin plate clutch I had in my SVT focus so I like a stiff clutch. It is very stiff for the first month or two and then either you get used to it or it gets a bit easier. Engagement is is instant as soon as you pass the friction point it is fully engaged it is not like a light switch but it is close, you can slip it a bit if desired but nothing like the stock clutch. As far as noise goes all I mean is if you don't shift right or try to slip it too much it will let you know that your shifting skills need improvement. This is much more frequent during break in and it is just normal noise of a much more agressive pressure plate if you get one you will see the difference just by looking at the pressure plate. Like I said before it is a great upgrade, but make sure you have your throw-out bearing replaced ($110.00 from Mitsu) when you do the clutch and either get the new flywheel or have yours refinished.
The total cost for everything (RRM stage 2 Pressure Plate, RRM stage 2 clutch, Mitsu Bearing, Shipping to IL, and 3 bottles of redline MTL) plus install was $834.43 my install was $350.00 at a local trans/performace trans. shop they have done all of my transmission work since I was 16 so for the last 9 years they are on the high side for cost but they build race car setups so I am willing to pay extra. I would think you could get it done for $250.00 but I recommend using someone you trust. I hope this helps you out. --Jerrad
I didn't need stage 2 either I am N/A powered but after talking to some people with both the consensus was that stage 1 doesn't feel any different it just lasts longer and stage 2 feels more agressive and lasts longer so I went with Stage 2. Might as well cause then if you go turbo later you won't have to upgrade your clutch again.
