Slow take-off

hello ppl i have a 4g15 dohc mirage the prob with theses cars in my opinion is the transmission, the car does not respond quick enough when you press the accelerator, the car revs out and react some seconds later is this noram with these cars?and if so is there something i can do to improve my "take-off"? like a putting a air intake ? well i am open to suggestions, as i said b4 i know you guys in the u.s have only sohc engines but maybe you can shed some light thanks and hope to here from you soon.

That's not a transmission problem, but, more than likely a lack of hard throttle response.
