Blew My Stage II Clutch Set-Up!!!

this is my venting thread...friday morning i was leaving my beach house from surfing to get cleaned up for my sisters 28th B-day party. I pull out on Rt.35 and attempt to shift into 2nd gear and the car refused 2nd gear. Pulled over tried again and same crap...to make a long story short, after fighting with the tow truck driver over towing my car since it was 'too low' my shop pulls the tranny apart (i do not have the time to do the work right now with work and school) and the throw out bearing seized up and pushed through the fingers on the pressure plate!!! the clutch disc is fine but this SUCKS!!! my insurance is due in 2 days for $1362 and now i need to buy a new clutch and pay $500 in labor sicne i'm occupying the lift for 3 days...so now i will have to say good-bye to my RRM Stage II Clutch i am really going to miss the clutch and the car. I found some new set-ups at CNFX that i am looking at---> Stage IV Clutch (i know it is not necesrary) = high clamp pp, 2pc disc, bearing, tool, and optional 3 or 6 wing...i'll keep you posted on this one.

NOTE: The RRM Stage II Clutch was not the issue!!! The mechanic said I drove it way to hard. I would still recommend this clutch to others. As for myself, I am interested in trying other parts that are out there on the market so I can make some comparisons.

That sucks to hear man. Are there any other options you can consider when buying your clutch. Also, is there any possible way to get the just a pressure plate so that you can still you use stage II clutch (since you said that it is still good). Then you can get some throw out bearings from the dealership.

Doesn't RRMs kit come with the throw out bearing? Also can you post the cnfx site? I'd like to see the clutches.

CNFX, RRM, RPW, and i think HKS has one but i could be wrong. ZOOM also makes a clutch that i know nothing about. The only way to get a plate is through the clutch manufacturer...but i need the PP, TOB, and the whole finger assembly is messed up so i am just buying everything. it would run me $100 more to do a full Stage IV set up instead of staying at Stage II.

Greg, the clutch was well past the break in period. I installed it on Oct 6, 2004...about a year ago. i got it 2nd hand from Joe (liquidlancer) who only had a couple hundred miles on it. i never had a problem with the clutch till now though. there was approximately 13-15k on it.

i guess it's true ---> sh*t happens. if it's not one thing, it's another.

that should be a direct link to the clutch page...if it doesn't work then just go to the homepage.....they also have some nice braided steel, Wilwood, brake lines....too bad i won't have the money for a while now.

i thought that was a bit over-kill for our sluggish little lancers ...then again isn't the stage 4....should i go with a 3 or 6 wing? i don't know how much of a difference it will make.

^^i did check quotes on other companies and they are more. NJ insurance is insane, let alone when you have points on your liscence. I'm sure that hobie would agree with you (he's in Jersey too).

anyways, IF (now this is a major if) i can get in touch with CNFX for that clutch, should i get a 3 or 6 wing disc? They don't answer the phone there, nor have they returned my message i left 2-3days ago. if i can not get them to send me that clutch i am going to be forced to get another clutch from RRM. i really don't want to pay to next day air a clutch here from RRM in Cali though. that's a bit pricey.
