nice question i hope you get it answered cause im wondering it as well .. also to add another question about the clutch ... does steping down on the brake and clutch .. wear down your clutch .. for example at a red light you could have it in first but with the clutch and brakes down?

No, it doesn't wear on the clutch disk but it DOES wear on the master and slave cylinders because you're maintaining that higher pressure needlessly. You wear out the springs and seals and eventually you'll get no pedal feel. The cylinders are generally considered part of the clutch.

I wonder why you can't shift anymore....

you have to replace them and no clutch work is fun to DIY or cheap to have a mechanic do.

It's called "riding the clutch" and I've always been told it was the worst thing you could do to your clutch (well, aside from hi rev lauches, but you know you're going to break something then )

If you listen to car talk this topic comes up occasionally and they've said the same thing about keeping the clutch engaged.

You can't move the shifter or it won't go into gear? If it won't move you may have to try "wiggling" the car to get it unstuck. If it won't get into gear but will move, I'm not sure what to tell you. Certianly if you can bleed the cylinders it would be worth a try.
