What's up Community Goers....
I got my BAsic TEin Coilovers and decided to run a search and I happen to find a couple of tutorials on how to install. The directions that came w/ the product were pretty much self explanatory. So I started installing w/ a big of help from my pops, since he does have a mechanical background. Jacked the car and swapped out the old w/ the new. We finish the passenger side and now it's time to move on to the back ones. here's where the problem began....
As we move towards the back, we start to pull out the inlining of the trunk to reveal the bolts. As we lay on the car we feel the car moving? ( Keep in mind, I have an automatic). We're like, what's going on? so we push the car and it just moves as if there were was no braking. The brakes weren't the issue, we came to find that the Transmission didn't want to grab "P"arking. "R"everse nor "D"rive wanted to work. When put into drive and switched back into parking, the transmission would make a horrible noise.
What we can't figure out is what could have caused this? The transmission has fluid and was working properly a few hours before install. We didn't have any problems w/ installation either. The freaking thing just doesn't grab any gears. Also, I tried resetting the ECU to see if it' was a computer problem, but that wasn't it either.
Any one have an opinion on what this malfunction could have been. If I can't figure it out, I'm going to take it to the dealer. My warranty expired, but luckily i purchased another from an outside source. My car only has about 59k.

Well, for starters the car should have been on a flat surface and should have been neutral for the install. (Wheel chalks come in handy for that) I have an auto @ 60k right now with no tranny fluid exchange yet (though thinking I'll get in done here very soon). It still runs fine... You might have done something to it internally. Question? do you normally use the E-brake while parked? If not, start to...
Well for one You should always block your wheels when lifting, another thing is that automatic transmissions always have "some play" in them. You can also take it in to get it checked out.

Well Usually I do put the E-Brake on when parking the car. It's saved me from potential tow-a-ways....
but yea, I had no idea you were suppose to have the car in Neutral for this install. Thats' not stated anywhere... And I did my research. That's irrelevant. My guess is probably it is something internally. It only makes cranking noise when switching it back into Parking. And when moving the shifter it does not grab any gears... It's as if the transmission was kicked into neutral and it can't get out. As if resetted.
Sleet, what you mean Caps lock? what's that?...

Okay, sorry about that. I've gone ahead and updated the title. But seriously, I'm checking it out later today when I get out of work, weather permitting.
Danno, you said it has "some play", as in always something moving no matter what you're doing around it? You think this can be tweaked and just put back into place whatever it might be w/o actually taking it in anywhere and get charged up the butt?

After Further Review
After further review and searching to see what the problem was , it turns out being that the Insurance is fine. The problem turns out to be the Axle boot that is attached within the transimission. It seems during the install of the coilovers, the axle came out of place causing the the boot that holds it inside the transmission to slip out of line. This is why when i put the tranny into gears it won't grab. Both axles are now working side by side causing an internal malfunction in the transmission at the same time not allowing the car to grab " P ".
I called up the dealership and they are charging me two different prices for the axle boot. If it's black, $62 or if it's Gray $48. Just because of the color... There's a local shop around my house that specialize in axle drivetrains and hopefully they'll have something compatible to contribute to the solution of this malfunction. I'm doing all the work myself...

Okay, I ended up buying nothing. The boot just happened to slip off the wheel inside the transmission. All I did was dis-assemble the suspension and pull, loosen, reapply the boot w/ some force and clamp it tight. Re-assembled everything and moved on to the back. Everything is good, and now my basics are totally in and the ride is so sweet.

ALRIGHT IT SEEMS SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG W/ MY CAR NOW. I'm on the Highway and when I'm about to hit 70, the car stalls on me and it feels as if it falls down a gear and i get a CEL. I'm driving an auto and it sticks at 3 gear. The funny thing is when I stop the car and turn it off and turn it back on the problem goes away.
Does anyone have a clue to what this might be?
Could it be a sensor of some sort?
I need some help!

Jack the car back up and check on that axel again. If it slipepd at 70mph you are screwed since the transmission just ate itself. Yes there are sensors in there that might have been injured however im not good enough to know which ones to tell you to look at. Gurus? anyone with an idea?
