noise in idle...

I gotta question for you gurus. When my car is idleing after it is has gotten good and warmed up it will start making a rattling noise. When you put the clutch in it stops immediately. It is even lowder when the A/C is on... in fact it is down right obnoxious when the A/C is on. I talked to a friend a couple weeks ago who owns an Elantra and he said his car does exactly the same thing and he thinks it's the throw out bearing wiggling. That sounds like a pretty viable idea but what causes that and how do I make it go away? More importantly is it a precursor to something big wrong?
