knocking noise coming from motor when clutch is released

hey guys i have a problem in the motor, or i guess you can say in the tranny area. Everytime i drive my car and drive up to a light or even at a parking lot to stop. I'll put my car in nuetral, and then release my clutch. As i do that i hear knocking noises coming from the front of the car, and as i push in the clutch the knocking goes away... I have no clue of what this could be? Is it time for a new clutch or anything in that area. I also when i try shifting, the stick wont sometimes catch where its suppose to be...My other problem is my acceleration. It just plain sucks, my acceleration doesn't catch as fast as i think it would. Any help?

knocking noises come standard on all manual lancers, think it has to do w/ the throwout bearing

acceleration... how many miles you got? Are you up to date on your maintenance? check your airfilter, plugs, change the oil, etc.

read your owners manuel and find out.

the knocking noise/tapping noises are one of 2 things
1. the infamous TOB, which mitsu has now come out with a "revised edition"
2. or the tranny itself

for me it was the actual tranny, EVERYBODY on here and locally told me ahh, its just the tob, well, when my tranny broke everbody that was sayin that was like stfu, no way.

as for acceleration, u drive a base us lancer that is VERY HEAVY, and has like 95whp stock, lol, if acceleration is good, then gravity must have vanished.

as for me, a little ot, but oh well, im done messin with the lancer, im blowin way too much money on it and everything is starting to break. i bought my buddies '00 si coupe and im gonna turbo it, go ahead call me rice, i dont care, imho the si is a beautiful car and on 7psi it will have 220whp, at 9psi, 250whp.

sorry if i seem cranky but im in a really bad mood, no sex, and no car for 4 WEEKS!!!

oh, change your tranny fluid too, buy some redline racing fluid, i LOVED that stuff, after 400 miles my car went from grinding in 3rd all the time to smooth like butter in every gear. i swear i'll never buy a different tranny oil.
and change your plugs
change your timing belt
use a bottle or 2 of fuel injector cleaner

your due for them things i could think of off the top of my head, i know there is more but like i said im tired and cranky so look in your owners manuel yourself for what needs to be serviced for your mileage.

yea, umm, sorry.

when i typed that last night i was like 99% asleep.

tob is short for throw out bearing. chances are it is that part causing the knocking, as for the acceleration issue, try changing your plugs. to make you not feel bad, i bought a new mitsu tob for 100 bucks 2 weeks before they came out with the revised edition and it started knocking only 2 WEEKS after i got the new clutch in. if you buy or have a garage buy a new throw out bearing make sure it is the updated one.

the tranny fluid and timing belt arent gonna help out acceleration, but they are supposed to be changed at 60k miles, and believe me, you do not want a snapped timing belt.

i went out to my car to see what other maintinence is due and basically the only other things it says is to check the brakes, fuel lines, grease the fittings, check ignition and emissions system.

hey i had the same problem on my 85 iroc-z and my 03 lancer es ... the sound was slightly different with the camaro but my lancer has done this since DAY 1 brand new ... after reading this thread I'm less worried because the noise has stayed the same . never gotten worse.

acceleration would only be bad if you have A/C, power everything.. it really bogs down your acceleration when you already have paltry HP to begin with. But without all the accessories, it's NOT that bad
