Clutch Problems?

Well I was wondering if anyone can help pinpoint the problem here. The other day I was driving my car and I start to notice a slight wine and hum when I pushed in the clutch. By day 2, this wine and hum also started to have a strange ticking noise followed by a slight vibration has a pushed in the clutch. I called the mitsubishi dealer to schedule an apointment the next day. As I turned on my car this morning, I heard a couple grinds, pops..which sounded like piece breaking...however the car will now not go into gear. Anyone know what type of problem this might be and if it is covered under warrenty?

It should be covered under warranty. I see you have a 2002 ES, did you get an extend warranty? If not, take it to a mechanic that you trust instead of the dealership. You might end up saving a bit of money.

Now I just have to get the thing towed over to the dealer. Man I love my car, but I've done some pretty good maintenance on it and still have problems. I have 80'000 miles on my car, my warranty is ticking away.

Well, I have found out it is the clutch all together. How much would this actually be to install, don't you guys think it is a little odd for my clutch to go bad at 85'000?

your original clutch at 85,000? Seems like you are probably way over due for a new clutch

I already got the clutch replaced at 35'000 miles, which mans I've only been driving it for about 50'000. I'm not an aggressive driver either. The reason why it was replaced is because the company who sold it to me told me to come in and they will fix it for free (at the time), because of some manufacturer problem with there shipments.

And really, 85'000 miles is over due. I have friends who drive stick, ranging from Honda Civics to Dodge Neons and they have well over a 100'000 miles and never once had a single problem with their clutch.

If the first clutch only lasted 35k, why would you be surprised that the second lasted 50k? Sounds like an improvement to me...

That is odd that you say that considering I said the clutch was replaced because of a manufacturing problem in my area. I received a note in the mail in 2003 (about 18 months after I bough it) that basically stated the problem. So I'm very surprised it only lasted 50K, considering the "****ed up" one lasted 35 (but was still functioning normal when they fixed)

Sorry, I misread.

As it is, maybe it's time for a different brand of clutch...

Well, I'm now looking into trading in my POS **** box for something less...money "pitish." I've already dropped 1'800 dollars in it just in May for a new water pump, 16 new valves, and pretty much most of the top of the engine (as you would of guess my timing belt snapped and ****ed a lot of **** up).

I'm tired of having to fork over a done of cash, I think biting the bullet and guy a new car from my friend who works at a dealership (should be able to give me a good price on a dodge or Hyundai).
