Limits of the auto tranny....

Ok, I need to know this for (distant) future reference. I drive an auto lancer, and the thought of going turbo to make "real power" has crossed my mind. I've heard horror stories about turbos being bad for autos and how we can't handle the power and whatnot. But I've also heard that as long as you don't go overboard with it, it won't be so bad. So I'm asking, just how much of a moron do I have to drive like to blow my torque converter? I mean to say, how much power can it handle, and would say RRM's least potent turbo be safe to run in an auto lancer that goes to the drag strip maybe once a year and is for the most part driven like a grandma(to conserve gas)? I'll admit I don't wanna hear the simple "Don't do it stupid!" answers, but if that's the case, at least explain to me to what extent I can go without screwing my transmission.

Well, that's reassurring. By the way, I'll wanna know how that 5 speed swap goes, I've always wanted a manual lancer.

lol, will do. And I'll keep saving for a while now. I am getting wheels this month, but after that I think I'll avoid buying anything until I can afford a turbo and probably the labor too, though I know a few shops that might just teach me how to install it. I'll probably go with RRM's non-intercooled kit, but I'm open to suggestions being as it will be quite some time before I actually can afford to buy the kit.

im an auto and im gonna go for 300+hp. no one has said its a bad idea so far.
but im also gonna get the auto shift kit from A2, and a transmission cooler, just to be on the safe side.

you may want to look into A2's shift kit.
either that or look into getting a performance torque converter. i think a company called Level 10 makes them for our car. they are somewhere around $500 plus the cost of install

Yeah, a transmission cooler just sounds like a good idea in all cases. I'll look into the converter and shift kit as well.
