changing tranny fluid

Its finally time to change my tranny fluid, and I was wanting to know what kind of fluid is needed, and what all I need to knowbefore I start. I am hoping that it is as "simple" as drain, remove pan, clean pan change filter, replace pan fill. If it is not please let me know. btw its an auto. Thanks a lot guys

I've never done it before but I would assume it's just a drain and fill operation. As for a filter, is there even one in there? Also I know they say synthetic is bad for our motors( I still use it, I feel its better no matter what they say) but what about our trannies?

I know that the two times I have done it on GM cars, it had a filter. I am just trying to make sure that this is the same deal.

well i was just going to ask the same question. other than the stock diamond spf that is recomomended the only company i have ever seen that says they are certified for it is amsoil atf fluid which is what i will be using. so does anyone know if there is a drain plug? i can see that the pan is on the side of the tranny instead of the bottom like most. any one have any ideas/service info maybe?

It's pretty much as simple as doing your oil and your manual even shows you where the drain port is and even lists what type of fluid to use. One thing to be aware of learning from DSM forums is that certain tranny fluids are harmful to the copper syncros (I'm hoping that's the metal) and can destroy them over time. I checked the DSM tranny fluid style agains that Lancer's and both recommended the same type, so I'm pretty sure you should follow the same precaution about fluids. Motul transmission oil should more than likely be compatible but it's turning out to be difficult to find out it's ANSI grade. *hopes he didn't leave anything out*
