has anyone found out the problem yet? my tranny is doing the same thing, usually if i'm driving in traffic around 20-25 mph and it shifts from 3rd to 4th. not all the time though. gotta get it to the dealer but kind of tough now to find the time with 2 jobs.

so it is the 3-4 shift huh?

hmm that is using the HI-Reverse set of gears, my guess would be either the high/reverse clutch is slipping or the holding member (i believe it is a belt in our tranny) might either need adjustment or replaced (both warantee).

I am planning on going to the dealer this coming weekend, I'll bring it up there and see what they say. I'll post with the results.

I hate to scare you guys, but my parents have a '95 Intrepid that I used to drive and it did the same thing. Of course this was after the warranty had expired and we had to get the whole tranny replaced. It was a while ago, so I can't remember exactly what the problem was. I know this is a different car/transmission but it sounds awfully similar.

actually in today's world most tranny's arent re-built, they replace the tranny and send it off to be rebuilt. that way you get your car quicker and the dealer doesnt have to higher tranny rebuilders.

i had the same problem in my old car. there is too much pressure in the tranny and a cable is flying off. it was so bad in my old car that i had to trade it in for my current one. so get that checked asap and drain your tranny and fill it again. good luck hope it isnt as bad as mine was.

mine is fine too and i am turbo on my auto. it sounds like either the clutch or band that holds your high/reverse drum is worn. or you have a fluid leak in that area, this would cause the car to engage in higher speed applicationd but not at lower speeds (as the valve body doesnt route as much pressure at lower speeds).

Yeah Guru sounded right with the low fluid idea, have had that happen to me once. If not, just go to the dealer and tell it slips into Neutral about 3/4 way down the track, and theres no room for that ****.

Okay, I went in this morning and had my tranny looked at. They drove the car around the block, could not "duplicate the complaint", and recomended I leave the car for a day so they can test drive (make the lunch run, etc.) the car multiple times to try to find the problem. I explained that this happens every blue moon, like over a month ago was the last time. I guess that they will see me later if it starts getting worse. I love warrenties!!! Good luck to everyone else, I will be scanning for any new info from somebody else, Thanks!!!

i had the same problem in my cc lancer a couple of times. Took it to the mechanic and he said something about the transmission filter being blocked and another time there was no tranny fluid at all.
My mum crashed her corolla and after she got it back from smash repairs she had the slipping problem too, turns out no fluid watsoever. The mechanics reckon they put 4 litres of fluid in and yeh then where did it go? So i guess people with this problem should check regularly the transmission fluid levels for mysteriously disapperearing fluid or just change it more often as well as filters and the such.

this just happened to me today .. i was cruising @ 60 and and then i tried to accelerate a bit more it seemed to go into neutral on it's own. i didn't touch the shifter at all. i had my cruise control on and set if that makes a difference. but cruise only prevents u from going below the set speed right?
