Input shaft bearing help pls!

First post so, hello, nice to meet everyone.

I just bought a 02 Lancer es, it sounds like the input shaft bearing is gone on it. The car drives and shifts smoothly so i dont think the transmission has any other problems outside of the rattling while the clutch is engaged or while the car is coasting in gear while the clutch disengaged.

So its obviously a bearing in the trany, and ill bet its the isb. Here is where i need the help does anyone know either what are the exact size and type of bearing the isb is or where i can buy a new one? i dont want to tear it apart till i have the replacements at the ready and i have searched all of the introwebs to fine a isb for the 02/03 lancer or the Mitsubishi F5M42! Can anyone help me out and point me in the right direction?

The Mitsu part # is MD700207. You can purchase one from here:

http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/cart/?pn=MD700207

...or from the Mitsu parts department at your local dealership.

well, from my experience on other vehicles, the throw out bearing only makes noise when the pedal pressed in and the clutch is disengaged thereby causing the t/o bearing to spin. However i have seen them make noise only when the clutch is engaged due to the t/o bearing riding on the inputshaft thereby making a noise with the pedal out and not when the pedal is in. but the non evo lancers t/o is made on to the slave i think, so i would doubt thats whats happening.

Im still going to replace the all that anyway though.

Need to remove the extension housing and then use a gear puller to CAREFULLY remove the 5th gear synchro and driven gears. Make sure not to mix them up or lose the shims. At that point you will be able to split the bellhousing and main case. Most front drive transaxles work the same way- 5th gear appears to have been added on as an afterthought and complicates disassembly.
