auto to manual swap

I'm interestedin doing an around to manual swap in an 08 ES. Has anyone done this yet? I've got the cvt tranny now and I miss the fun of driving a stick. I want to do it in the next year at the latest. But don't know if there are any problems with it. Money isn't really an issue I just want go go back to a 5 or 6 speed if I can.

if money is not an issue you are better off trading it in...unless you just enjoy working on cars. Mechanically it shouldnt be too hard to do. Should be a direct replacement of the cvt for a tranny with clutch. Then the additions of oil lines, cylinders, pedal etc... Not sure how the computers interface with the manual tranny vs the cvt, but i would presume that its going to throw fault codes since your ecu is set up for the cvt.

Most likely the engine will not start at first due to the different wiring harness'

You will be better off selling and buying a different car

I like a challenge. Before this I had a Chevy small block in a Volvo swap. I want to do the AT to MT swap. Ill buy the parts needed and make the swap if I'm the first.

well, talk to mitsu to see if they will reprogram your engine ECU, combination meter ECU and possible your ETACS ECU... I don't know if you will have to do your ABS ECU as well. Also see if the harness for the speed sensor is the same, if not then see if mitsu will sell the connector separately.

Then hopefully it all works after that....still up for the challenge?

i would say dont even waste the money, sell your es and get an ES manual, or better yet if money isnt an issue just get a Ralliart, its a worlds difference between your CVT tranny and a manual. most like the best of both worlds

if he is up for the challenge of a swap, then a sst isnt worth his time. Besides, the sst is more of a over glorified automatic, shifts faster but doesnt have that crisp feeling of a manual. Now if where to add a clutch to the raliart and make it a sequential gearbox, that would have some weight behind it and actually be worth buying. My opinion, no clutch = no fun.

I didn't get to see how old this post is but I was looking up the something and was told to Change out the ecu and use one from a manual car (same make) and that should help with the wire harness etc... lmk if you were able to do the swap bcus I have a 2011 es with cvt tranny also and want to do this. Yea I could just sell it and buy a manual but I like projects and I like my car
