Brake install question!!!

Hello everyone. I tried doing several searches on this website but didn't find quite what I was looking for. Im getting ready to do a brake pad swap on my MR and was wondering what methods you guys used to push the pistons back into the calipers?? I have the Mitsubishi Service manual and was going to try and purchase the tool they had in the manual from Mitsu. But they told me I couldn't purchase it from them. So.....any suggestions on what to use or where to buy that tool??? Thanks.

I think you can push them back by hand using the old pads

You can buy the clamp from auto parts stores. Or use a C-Clamp from Home Depot

You don't really need any special tool. Put a big screwdriver between the pad and brake rotor and *gently* pry the pad so it pushes the pistons back in the caliper. You can use this method to push the pads completely back or to just loosen them up a bit so you can pull the old pads out. Once they are out, you can just use finger pressure to move the pistons back. You will have to alternate between the pistons because when you push one back the other(s) will tend to come out again a bit. It's easy.

Flip one of the old pads and rotate it 90 degrees and re-insert. Push firmly but slowly on the end of the pad you're holding. On the fronts, push both pots at the same time.

+1 ... use your old pad like a lever to push both pistons on 1 side at the same time. Also make sure you open your brake fluid reservoir so that the fluid has somewhere to go. You may need to suck out some of the brakefluid from the reservoir before it overflows.
