Question Replacing Input Shaft Bearing // Help!!

So I replaced my clutch, flywheel & slave cylinder/throw out bearing about 30,000 miles ago.

Now my trans sounds like it has marbles in it when I'm driving in gear but sound goes away as soon as I press the clutch pedal to the floor.
I assume it's the input shaft bearing? Thoughts?

So I'm planning to replace the input shaft bearing (part # MD700207).
What else should I replace? Is there a pilot bearing that goes into the engine that the transmission shaft rides on? How about output shaft bearing or any other bearings or seals I need to replace?

Help would be great!
I've never worked on the internals of transmissions so I need it

Also if someone knows where this all is talked about in the FSM Senate posted that would be AMAZING

I finally found the section in Senates factory service manual that goes over a overhaul of the manual tans. PrefaceForMMSAVol2.pdf>Manual Transaxle>Manual Transaxle Overhaul

So looking it over, if my goal is to crack this thing only once in the next 100,000 miles+; I need to replace 2 bearings on the input shaft (and 1 seal), 1 bearing on the output shaft, 1 differential bearing & the seal cap on the back of the trans.

Does that list look complete?
What am I overlooking?
Thanks!

Damn I had a good post but I cant remember what exactly my steps I took to positively Identify Ryans ISB was the issue on his tranny right before we broke his open. I know his had the same problem and changing it was not that difficult. We took the input shaft down to a local trans shop and they were nice enough to press off the old bearing and press on the new one at no charge (nice guys I have used them for many jobs when there is something I dont have the proper tools to do myself) The fsm gave a very accurate description of how to disassemble the tranny.

It sounds like mine is just starting to hint at an issue. Luckily I plan on breaking mine open with in the next couple months anyways as soon as I get my lsd drop in so I will likely be replacing that bearing at that time.

Cool 03lancers!
Good to hear.
Do you remember if y'all replaced anything else in there while you were at it?

Your list looks complete to me . I believe we replaced the axle seals and probably that front seal while we were in there.

If you happen to break yours open before I break mine you should do me a favor and measure the space in between the spider gears for me .

Yeah will do, I hope to have mine out next week (or this weekend). You'll have to tell me what the spider gears are though

Mine does stop making the noise if I put it in neutral while coasting, however it makes the noise in neutral at start up. Pretty weird.

You know I got to thinking and you wont be getting that far into the tranny to measure those gears with what you are doing lol they are inside the differential. I think I have the info I need though thanks to some serious sleuthing .

Have you been able to break yours down yet 03Lances?
I've got all the bolts out, got the output shaft to drop be releasing that split ring and am attempting to separate the tranny case & bellhousing currently but can only get about a 1/4" gap between the two, seems there's still something holding...

I've also removed all 3 poppet bolts as well as the gear link/shifter. Am I supposed to remove the reverse light switch or reverse idler gear?
Here's photos

Any help would be amazing as I'm kinda stuck
Thanks!

Completely forgot to send you this link. Yes I have and I did a write up on it You do have to remove that reverse idler gear. This write up should give you all the info you need.

Use an air chisel to (or hammer and chisel if no air available) and drive that bolt in a counter-clockwise manor. After it breaks free you can use the Torx bit, or channel locks, etc.

trfguy, are you talking about the reverse idler gear bolt? I just tried to remove it with a cordless impact and it's not budging... I'm open to ideas. How would you use a chisel & hammer on it?
