Check tranny fluid while engine runnning?

Are you suppose to check the level when the engine is in park and running? When it's completely off and the car has been sitting for a few minutes, the level is above full by 1/4". When the engine is turning, check the fluid and it's exactly at the Full Line.

Mechanic says it's suppose to be checked while engine is on.

Is there a mitsu mechanic here that can verify which is the correct way?

You check tranny fluid when the engine is running. However I do no believe, as a matter of fact I know that 2008+ Lancer doesnt have the option on MT at least.
