CVT Tranny Problems??? New to CVTs, Cant tell...

hey peeps!

so I got a 08' lancer DE CVT and for the longest time I thought I had an exhaust leak...

It was a loud humming sound, sounded so much like there was a leak somewhere at the front of the car.
I went to a muffler shop, and the exhaust system checked out.

so I'm starting to think it might be the transmission.

I thought it could be the intake that was choking the engine, so i changed that and i still have the same problem...

I researched it a little bit, and I thought it was normal for a CVT not to have obvious gear shifts. which it doesnt.
But that sound is always present and the car seems to have hard time accelerating.

How can I know if my transmission is bad? and what are some of the things i can do since im not under warranty any more.

thanks!

First of all CVT transmission fluid should be changed ever 60,000 miles or every 2 years. Have you followed this service schedule? Did you use OEM fluid?

Is it a humming or a whining? Most people describe transmission problems as whining, not to say it can't hum.

Has it always made this sound?

Has it gradually gotten worse over time?

Does the pitch of the noise rise and fall with your acceleration?

Does it make the sound when accelerating/decelerating while the car is in neutral?

Does it become more noticeable/louder after driving for extended periods of time at high speeds, such as on a highway?

No, I havent changed the transmission fluid since I bought it nearly 2 years ago, It already had 70 000km roughly 45 000 miles.

Its more of a humming sound than a whining sound and yes its only noticeable when the car is being driven.

When I rev while the car is on N or P. I don't really hear that sound.
It only happens during acceleration.

The pitch doesnt change that much, but I'm assuming that's how the CVT works, the gear changing isnt noticeable, neither is the pitch of the sound.

But the car does have an acceleration problem.
It feels like its struggling and yes sometimes it does jerk suddenly while accelerating.

Anytime a car jerks suddenly while accelerating without being related to torque then you should probably get it checked out.

It could very well be an issue with your tranny. Is your car stock?

Are you still having this issue or did it get resolved?
