Water in transmission Fluid
Water in transmission Fluid
Hey, guys! Searched the forums and couldn't find anything, but I need to know something here:
Where is the breather or vent on the F4A42 found in the 2002 Auto Lancer? I have pulled and rebuilt this transmission twice now, first to rebuild and second because I had a few less than desirable mistakes made (got some clutches and steels swapped up, no big deal... sort of,) and both times, water made its way into the transmission. It has been sealed up completely, and I went as far as to use old half shaft ends to plug the diff while moving it to make sure that water or dirt never had a chance to get in. I started it up today after getting everything in, and wouldn't you know it, I have a strawberry milkshake on the end of the dipstick. A little bit of coolant did splash onto the case at one point, and that's the only source of water I can think of, minus a little bit of rain last night when I opened the hood, but even then, everything was sealed tight.
Most transmissions have a breather vent somewhere in the case that keeps pressure equal with what's outside the transmission. I did not find this breather either time that I tore the transmission apart. If a flush does not fix the problem, then I am stuck with yet another teardown to figure out where the water keeps getting in at. Please, anything that can save me the trouble would be immeasurably appreciated.
