Never heard of paddle shifting. how can any shifting with an auto be hard? you push the lever forward as the needle gets close to the "6".
I think paddle shifting is BS.
EDIT: paddle shifting on an auto is BS, i think what this guy/girl is talking abotu is how like astin martins have paddles on the steering wheel to shift with.

I wonder if he's talking about, like, slapping the stick around.. paddling it, as it were.
Otherwise, I think someone is confusing this poor soul. Whoever it is...
In other words... Mr. T, if you would?
Pity da fool

that auto stick
that chrysler Mercedes and other manufacturers have BLOWS
for performace driving. With almost a full second delay from when you upshift to when the trans gets around to doing it its hard to plan your shifts and leaves you feeling disconected. not even worth thinking about. However I beleve the ferrari system uses a manual trans with a computer that activates solenoids to actuate the clutch and shift gears alowing for near instant shifts

thanks for like not makin fun of me
i am talkin about the f1 style shifting its basically a paddle that is behind the stearing wheel you pull on one paddle and you shift up, you pull on the other and you shift down it is supposed to make an auto more like a stick, even more than the auto stick does
anyhow no one answered my question and i think you are all ignorant to the idea cuz all ya did was rag on me my original question was is it easier or harder to put on a car if its an auto?

the MR2 Spyder has paddle shift, actually buttons on front and back of the steering wheel..
it's a manual transmission, hydraulicly controlled, with automated clutch..
and yes, the delay is terrible.. but.. nice for smooth downshifts, might be able to autocross with it better..

If you're talking about a particular kit or something, perhaps pointing us at it would help? As far as I understand it would require more or less a full transmission rebuild. Those f1 shifters are clutchless. The fact that you don't have a pedal to remove is the ONLY reason I could imagine whatever you're talking about being easier for an auto tranny.
The Ferrari Modena has paddle 6 spd (considered as auto, not lazy manual version). Also, the slushbox version for the 00 celica does too.
The auto-stick thing w/ the 1 sec delay is a design problem of Mitsu since I don't hear it from Porsche or Acura CL & TL drivers . . .

serious bump here, but i'm currently working on an air-powered paddle shift system for my 5spd transmission. i'll bump the thread with actual shift results shortly. should be able to be used with any 5spd transmission. right now the issue is integrating paddle shifters into a stock steering wheel (you need a way to get the signal wires down to the PLC) so my initial setup will use a fore/aft shifter with limit switches to control down/upshifts
