I bought the precision brand bushings when I bought my B&M Short Shifter kit from RRM. These bushings (I was told) replaced the 4 bushings at the base of the plastic shifter housing inside the car. Is this correct?

If I did that correctly, do you think I should also add the kart-boy under-the-hood bushings? Would they even be noticable?

there are bushings that connect the shifter cables to the levers on the tranny. They're located.... wait for it...... under the hood Atually, "under the stock air box shifter bushings" might be a little more descriptive, but we just refer to them as under hood shifter bushings. There's a pic somewhere if you run a search on kartboy bushings. I would definitely recommend replacing the underhood bushings. Shifts are crisp, reliable, quicker, there's no play in the shifter when it's in gear..... 110% improvement

engineerboy: Nice. Thanks man. I even found an how-to install tutorial. I'll definitely add these since they're only $30, and I might as well go all the way if I've already installed the B&M and shifter-housing bushings.

P.S. Do you know if I installed the shifter bushings from RRM correctly? They didn't come from B&M, so they weren't in the instructions. I called RRM and asked about them, and the guy on the phone was kinda vauge when he said "They're the bushings at the base of the plastic housing. So I took a logical guess and replaced the 4 rubber bushings that are located under the corners of the shifter housing..... is this correct?

yep, that's the place. You'll really like the underhoods.

Is there a difference between urethane and brass bushings? Which is better?

brass is a metal, urethane is a plastic Seriously, there's a concern that brass might "wallow out" after a while and leave room for slop. Urethane might have the same issue, but I have more confidence in it's wear characteristics.... but that's me. Anybody else?

This is one of the easiest, cheapest mods in which you'll notice a night-and-day difference, more so if you're already installing a short shifter. I can't remember what the stock bushings and shifter felt like anymore.

What do the bushings do, just a smoother shift?? or does it make it easier to shift?

Basically they make it crisper. I got the Kartboy under hood bushings and theres no more sloppy feeling in the shifter. Its solid and even makes that little click sound when it shifts. Mitsubishi should make a partnership with Kartboy so all lancers get these stock.
