Third Motor Mount???
Third Motor Mount???
Hey, I was trying to clean up my engine bay and I removed the bracket that the old stock intake box sat on. I'm not sure why I didn't do this 2 years ago when I got the intake but I think it looks better. But anyways.... Under it I noticed there is another motor mount. Or at least it looks like another motor mount? What do you guys think. I'm in the process of installing my new motor mounts and thought this one was kind of forgoten maybe? Or does it not serve that much significance? Travis from Deyeme jump in here if you have any info about this. And if I wanted to could I send it to you for you guys to fill?

don't we have 4? front, back, left, right? I wouldn't worry about filling these. From what I've read, front should be enough for most folks, rear if that's not enough, but I haven't heard of any benefits from solid side mounts.....
It only affects the car if you are turning. It would work the same as the front and rear mounts, it would just keep the engine weight from shifting and possibly losing traction under hard cornering. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to change it(how often do you stomp on the gas to the floor in a corner or start a drag in a corner?). Also it and its friend on the other side othe the car are absorbing a lot of the new vibrations caused by the stiffer front and rear mounts.
I was just curious. I only saw this one by pure luck. I wasn't sure if it would be useful to get it filled or just leave it alone. I didn't see the other side but i figured there was one there also. I never heard much info on the side ones. But this one is real easy to access.
Even when autocrossing I think I'd benefit only from the front mount (Deyeme firm). Our loss of lateral traction is more a function of an open diff than a slightly leaning motor/tranny... but like you said, these are easy to get at, so just get some windo-weld and have at
Nice quote engineerboy I just noticed it. I'm glad you see the humor/truth in it.
Back on topic the mount on the passenger side doesnt look the same it looks like a tophat. I suppose it is like that because it is only getting a little action and less weight from being away from the tranny.

Well, I'm saving up for a turbo and gauges. You and RD will be getting my business next year when I beef up my suspension.
Back on topic, did you install the motor mounts yet? If you do one at a time, do you still have to support the engine with a jack (of course never drive with any mount off of the engine)?

We know about the side mounts. Techincally the front and rear are just "isolators", not actual weight-supporting mounts. I took a look at the engine (passenger) side mount, and there's not alot we can do with that one. If anyone has their engine out, or feels like an adventure, get some pics of the transaxle (driver) side mount, and I'll see if it's something we could work with.
The biggest advantage to a solid transaxle mount would be crisper shifting and high-power applications.
