front end alignment and kamikaze header

ok people. i 3 weeks ago i got my car stuck in mud. Didnt realize that the grass would be so soaked. i know this is really stupid and should have thought before parking on front lawn but anyway. The next day i noticed that the car was vibrating really bad. At first i thouhgt i might need a front end alignment or a wheel balance. So i took it to this local mechanic and he said that wheel balance would only cause vibration but i know thats a lie but got that done anyways. The next day noticed it kept vibrating still, so i went back to get the front end alignment done. They said i did need it and said my steer ahead was -.06. So i got that done. When they finished they said that Mitsubishi front ends will not be moved or are non-removable something of that sort, forgot what he said exactly. I was wondering if this is true. Everything on the diagonstics sheet is fixed except the camber and caster tehy are still not equal to each other. The toe for the two front equal but not the other two things that i mentioned. And yet still the vibrations still persist. What do you guys think. You cant really feel anything until you past 50 mph so i ahve no clue on this. I will post up the pic of the diagonsitcs sheet tomorrow and show you waht they said. Thanks for all the help. Kris

oh and another thing anybody else with the kamikaze header do you guys have this bad sound when backing up. It only happen when you lift off the clutch too much feels like the header is hitting something, all i saw was the support thing taht was built onto the car. I think that might be it. Does anybody else get this problem with this header.
Thanks agina everyone.

if you're getting some sound like the header is hitting something.....maybe that is the cause of your vibrations. something may be twisted or out of place and is causing things to resonate above 50mph, or rub when you put it in reverse.

Ok, I know you said you got your tires balanced but were you spinning the front wheels in the mud trying to get out? If that's what happened, you may have sprayed mud all over the cv joints and shafts coming out both sides of the transmission, or possibly there's mud built up on the back side of your front wheels and hubs. Dried mud on these surfaces will cause vibration since it acts just as a wheel weight would.

Go get a flashlight and peek under the front of the car at those things. See if there's any mud that's built up. If you do see any, spray it with a gardenhose to wash it away.

On many FWD cars using MacPhearson struts, camber is not adjustable from the factory. I may be wrong here, but I think it's because the three holes at the top of the strut do not provide for any adjustment. I read that some savvy alignment shops actually drill one of the three holes into an ellipse so that they can get some adjustment made at the top of the strut.

Did the dealer do the alignment and print out the specs? If not and you're under warranty, make it their issue to deal with.

Take a quick look at this picture which I took behind my left front wheel. I labelled one of the two CV joints, and the driveshaft. The other CV joint can be found by following the shaft towards the middle of the car (away from the wheel).

Anything in this picture that has mud built up on it, for example, the inside of the wheel itself, on the cv joint boot, the driveshaft, etc. needs to be rinsed off. Get out the garden hose w/spray nozzle and rinse it off with a nice spray, not stream of water. Do NOT excessively blast away at the CV joint, it has grease inside of it.
