I installed red LED turn signals to the rear blinkers of my Lancer. After a few blinks, the car "detects" that there are no lights/burnt out lights, even though all blinkers are working, and then starts the fast blinking. Anybody know of a way to disable/override this feature so that they blink normal?

 

It's not a matter of "detecting" that it's burnt out... it's that the LED's require lower wattage to run the lights so the current runs through quicker (making all ur lights blink faster). Only way to fix it is to buy the proper resistor and install it inline with the blinker wire thus fooling it that it's a bulb rather than a low wattage LED.

and be careful, those LED turn signals are illegal and I got major fines when I had red ones in my car (even though it looked PIMP at night time)

 

Thats exactly right I got a "Improper Light Display" $90 and 3 points. Not fun to get pulled over for a stupid light and then get nailed for exhaust also.

 

Actually, they're legal in certain ways. I have them on the rears, and in California, rear turn signals can be red or amber. Fronts can be amber or clear (but not high intensity), and the sides, if so equipped, can be amber or clear. No colors can be projected from the front of the car except amber and white for a reason. Ambulances, Fire engines, police, etc. are required by law only one light in order to run with lights and sirens. That light is a red light visible from 100 yards, solid burning, on the front of the vehicle. The rest are for show. But because of that light, cars cannot have colors.

(how do I know this? I work on am ambulance )....

I live in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada.)
it wasn't even that it was a LED that it was
illegal, but the cop said that the lends was CLEAR WHITE
when my signal wasnt turned on. wheras with the regular
lights there is a color of somesort behind the lens, but
now with the LEDs it was clear white.. make sense?

 

In Indy, cops sould care less.

Im a cop in NYC if your running around town with a exhaust, blast your tunes w/ neons all over the car leaning back in the seat like a thug Im going to pull to over I may not give you a ticket but I tell you to turn the sh*t down turn off the lights and go home

People that try to pimp out a (honda like car) most of the time think there hard and start trouble I not saying all of you do that but you make yourselfs stand out

My suggestion is if you wanta be P.I.M.P go to an empty lot and chill just dont do it on the road my bosses have hard-ons for people like that
