Lower the idle the better??? YOU are supposed to have your idle at a certain point so your car can move all the fluids and charge the battery.

I have a 2002 OZ Lancer and it often idles at 500 rpm. Had my car for a year now and havent had any problems with it not charging the battery or moving the fluids good. After i installed my CAI is when the idles dropped. I reset my ECU and it didnt help. I wouldnt be too worried about it, im not

I have recently became over interested in why my idle is so low too. I have tried everthing from checking for vaccum leaks to reseting the ecu. My idle "dances" from 500 rpm to ~700 rpm and back to 500 rpm and back to ~700 rpm. It does it nonstop, like every 3 seconds! It is driving me nuts!! As soon as I give up and try to except it, it feels like the car is going to die and I am back where I started. It does it w/ the cai ,an sri, and the stock airbox(k&n). I figure it is most likely because of mods. I think it could be the piggyback b/c of the advanced timing inturn giving it a rough idle. But, have you ever watched your engine while it almost stalls? it sucks!

frchgl123 try to check the screws holding the valve cover. Don't make them too tight just check if any of them are loose. One of mine was and my idle was jumping back and forth until I checked the nuts, I mean screws :P

/\Hey bro thanks for the tip! I ended up reseting the ECU when it started staying around 50 outside here. It has idled fine since, but that is a good idea in a troubleshooting trial!!

resetting the ecu is just disconnecting the battery for a few minutes right?

My idle has always been around 500 rpm, even when I didn't have my CAI, header or grouding kit.

Yea but you leave your negative disconnected for I think 20 minutes. Just unhook it at night and when you wake up hook it back up.
