Engine Code with RRM Stage 1

I'm getting an engine code with my 03 Lancer OZ with an RRM Stage 1 turbo kit. I don't have the specifics, but the code is stating there is a problem with the pre-cat and the reading of the second O2 sensor. My buddy hooked up his diagnostic tool to his laptop and got the code, reset it, and also the second O2 sensor is reading a little rich. This code will come back every so often and I was wondering if there is a way around it?

*bump* ..... think this might be caused by an exhaust leak?

Do you have an aftermarket header? If so, the only fix is to get an 02 simulator to trick the second 02 into thinking the first catalytic converter is there...

Crap, I should have explained that to begin with. Yeah, I have the RRM header along with the turbo kit. I also bought an O2 sim and installed it this past weekend. So far no engine codes, and hopefully I won't be getting one either.

yup. those 2 things will give you the codes. rrm header with the "precat inefficiency" and the o2 sim might give you the "o2 bank 1 sensor 2 slow to react" code.

So how will I get rid of the second code for slow responce if it appears? I need zero codes by the end of March so I can get my car inspected. Thanks.

the only way i can think of is the mechanical o2 fixes. i think one thread can be found in the evo "how to" and i think the ralliart guys just posted one somewhere in their forum.

there might be other ways, but i haven't heard of any

not sure if the mechanical o2 sensor would pass inspection either because if they're sharp, they can see the mod.

I read up on that, the problem is the fix is for the second O2 sensor. They use some sort of plug and move the second O2 out of the exhaust flow about 1/2". I guess it could work for the first O2, but I'll wait and see if the code appears. If it does, then I'll be forced to try that fix on the first O2.

Well, if they are sharp, they will notice I don't have a pre-cat as well, which is a requirement here in NY because we now conform to CA standard emissions.
