my lancer is 2 tone grr
Im not sure if anyone else has had this problem because i couldnt find any specific info on it. I've read through the posts concerning chipping paint and yellow OZ's fading to green however my prob is a bit diff. My front and back bumpers and my sideskirts are a darker yellow than the rest of the car. Its very slight and hard to notice outside in sunlight however if you put it in a garage under flourecent lights its very noticable. Although if you look real close you can still see it outside. It came this way from the dealer but I didnt notice it until recently while it was parked in my garage. Ive only had it about 4 weeks. Its a 2003 yellow (obviously) OZ. I called my dealer today and he told me that it was that way because of the way the bumpers are manufactured and the material they are made out of and that its very hard to match that color. Now I know some about automotive painting and in my opinion that is a line of BS. He also told me that all the yellow lancers are like that or at least that there are others. He suggested i come down to the dealership and set it side by side one they have on the lot. However its a 4 hour drive and i wont be able to do that this weekend. Im wondering is anyone else's yellow lancer like this?
You can look at Mustangs and Cougars and its the same thing you are describing. The Bumpers look like a shade darker probably the plastic used. I haven't noticed anything with my silver car other than paint chips easily on the side skirts.

Keep in my mind yellow is one of the hardest colors to make in paint and that the application of paint to metal and urethane are different processes. Just the way of the world.
urethane and metal have different characteristics.
urethane has a black appearance unfinished, so naturally it will be a different shade of whatever color the car is.
the factory metal is lighter in color, and no matter how many coats of paint you put on it, it's still a shade of the original color!
