brakes

My brake system seems to be very mushy... if I try to make say an emergency stop and mash my foot into the brakes, the car still takes its sweet *** time to stop. Is this something pandemic to the 03 Lancers?

Yes lancer's are known for having bad brakes..... It is in all the reviews so don't try to deny it! That is one of the downfalls, good news is you can buy better brakes. i think road race makes a pair.

Ok, didn't really read any of the reviews but thats my fault. What needs to be upgraded? Rotors alone? Rotors and calipers? Would steel braided lines make a difference?

I have never had any problem whatsoever braking.

Do you often yank on your e-brake and/or break suddenly and heavily? Have your checked your pads just to see how much you have left? It seems to me the brakes don't do well under abuse, but in 10k miles of mostly stop and go driving and a good amount of highway in there too I've never had a moment where my brakes felt soft.

EDIT: Tossing in troubleshooting.

no problems here except for constant hard brake (ie country road style) is the rain....i guess the brakes and rotors being so hot and then being cooled by the water kinda doesnt go that well on my ride

wow thats crazy... my brakes work like a dream, very responsive....but not to much fun in the snow, i give em a little pressure and they lock up easily on the ice, hard to judge.

i never had a problem with the brakes not braking hard enough, but i did wear the stock pads out at 15k miles and replaced them with the rs4 carbon kevlar pads and it stops a lot harder now, but i sometimes have problems with the front wheels locking up right before i stop at stop signs and stop lights, i think it has to do with the brake balance being kinda messed up by upgrading the front brakes but not the rear ones.

Well if you've got some brake problems, now's a perfect time to excuse yourself and get a set of these .

Brake balance on most Mitsu's is screwed up, actually. Ton of front bias, so, chances are since it's grabbier, you're just noticing it more. Not a real fix as of yet...

Oh, and are those RS4s really good? I already ordered some, and am expecting delivery within the week. I'm just curious if they're everything they seem to be.

I upgraded my pads and rotors...now I'm afraid of people hitting me from behind because they can't stop quick enough.....and it always seems to be a minivan...

I have no issues with brakes at all. I have 18000 miles on my car, plus I auto cross it. When others drive my car they comment how touchy and good the brakes are. Maybe just a bad set of pads for you guys...........
