AEM CAI rubbing...

Just wondering if anyone else had a problem with their AEM CAI rubbing against their radiator fan shroud. It isn't the actual piping that was rubbing but the bypass valve. I had to cut about 1.5" off part of the piping to make it fit without rubbing. Is this normal or what?

I never had that rubbing. Try moving it around and retightening everything. If anything it will be rubbing on the plastic cover of the battery, or it just might be your bypass valve because I never used one.

I already cut the piping and it fits good now but i was worried that shortening the piping would void the warranty if they have any...

A warranty on the CAI? It either works or it doesn't...

Manufacturers generally do have their own warranties on their own parts.

i know you're toting a AEM but i'm supposing the policies are vaguely alike... but read this FAQ's page from Injen

http://injen.com/faq.html

read about hydrolocking...the last sentence states that if you cut the pipe you void warrenty...i think AEM in the same.

Your warranty if voided if you cut the intake.

I was going to have to cut mine, so i just tossed the bypass valve. I still had to budge one end of the pipe into the other to make sure it didnt hit the fan shroud.

So it doesn't fit really well after all then. So a sort of custom fitting is needed to make sure no rubbing occurs. Sounds like a bad deal if you ask me.

without the bypass valve i got the following results:

look above you can see what i was talking about. Look by the throttle body where the first pipe is going into the black mas air flow sensor box. The end of the sticker is covered a little because i had to force the pipe as far as i could in that black mas air flow box, same with bottom pipe; its all the way in the polished piece, but as you can see it looks good,; there's just no room for the bypass valve!!!

i wonder if there is a way to fit the BP valve just behind the filter so the only cutting that would need to be done is on the inside of the bumper? ...i'd have to have the valve in my hands to figure that one out. i don't have one..i just avoid puddles hahaha

I think the AEM recomends that the bypass valve be installed as high as you can.
Does anyone have pictures of where they put their bypass valve??
