having trouble disconnecting battery

Hey guys, I need a little help. Well today i decided to unplug my battery to reset my ecu but ran into a problem. When I try to loosen the nut on the neg terminal, the hole bole turns. Ive tried holding the bolt with vice grips and loosening the nut but it just doesnt work. So will it be ok if I disconnect the positive side first? And if it is, is it jst that top nut where the batter fuse is?

People tell you to disconnect the negative terminal first so you don't cause a short circuit. You're already grounded, so removing the grounded terminal will be no problem. If you remove the positive terminal first, you can cause a short circuit to go right through you, to ground.

you cant hold onto the bolt at all ? normally you should be able to push it into the neg terminal connector and that will hold it in place while you pop the nut off. Id say use some wd40 or something that will cut rust and go at it again, there shouldnt be THAT much presure on that nut.

Spray some WD40 and just yank? It's not on there THAT tight, generally.

Or get a crescent wrench and maybe HOLD THE HEAD OF THE BOLT?

Lord. And stop bumping this.

i had the same problem. the bolt turned easily, but the nut wouldn't come off. i used my trusty "robo-grip" from sears(like visegrips with something like 500lbs of pressure, and it worked like a charm. i switched the bolt out once i got it off so i don't have the problem anymore.
