Test Pipe Prob
Test Pipe Prob
Ok, understand my car has been through two crappy winters in the midwest. Last week, my buddy and me went to throw the test pipe on, with no luck. Couldnt get the damn stock cat on....
Ok, before you start going off, we did know what we were doing, used wd40, etc. (this kid did his own B16A swap inot a 91 SI, so he knows how to handle rusted stuff
) The front bolts and the O2 sensor were easy, but the back two would not budge at all. Part of the problem was the fact the whole exhaust would move back and forth when trying to break the bolts loose. Anyone else have this problem of not being able to get the cat off easy? Its a nusance really, because worse comes to worse Ill get my car up on a lift and sawzall that damn cat off. Just wondering if anyone had any special techniques they used.

Yea, I was going to buy PB blaster since it has magnetic properties and works its way in better, but they didnt have any at the place at the time....
You think that will loosen it up enough?

Put the front bolts back in just not tight as this will secure the exhaust for max torque application. Then try some brake cleaner and bust the sucker loose. That is how i did it anyway.

Had the same prob, my friend and I used some Military penetrating fluid and then used a mallet/hammer to bang on the wrench(didn't have access to impact gun @ time). Do what boe says and keep the front ones on as you get the back ones loose!
I used Valvoline Synpower, claims to be a million times better (3 times the price) than WD and I have to agree. If you dont got air tools, like me use half inch drive and 5 sided sockets. Make sure they are 5 sided no 12 pointed ones, they strip and that would suck
If you can get your car lifted, just get like a 10 foot long pipe for leverage. That's how I finally got my 2nd cat off. Well, more like driving it over a pit and using a 2 foot pipe, but you get the point.
