Battery/alternator problem - help?

i been having trouble with my car. out of no where my battery dies and its dead dead i cant recharge it . its the factory battery. I noticed my car had trouble cranking and I put a different battery on it that was good and it didn't charge it up. Anybody else have or had that problem? What could I do?

if you put in a known good battery and the car still didn't charge it, your altenator might be bad. start the car. take off the positive battery cable while engine is running. if the car dies, it's either your altenator or the voltage regulator, but most likely your altenator.

but, before you do that, make sure the connections are clean and free of corrosion.

www.car-parts.com A new alternator is around 50 bucks. Also make sure you're belt isn't loose.

Check your voltage with the car off. Should be just above 12 volts. Start the car and check it again, a properly working alternator puts out just above 14 volts.

that is the best way to diagnose, if your alternator is dead, I used to do that all the time back in the garage when cars came in complaining of dieing. Then use the tester idea.
