TESTING

Coil one fires cylinders 1 and 4, coil two fires cylinders 2 and 3. Each coil tower is labeled with the number of the corresponding cylinder.

Primary Coil Resistance Test

Unplug the electrical connector from the ignition coil pack.

Measure the primary resistance of each coil. At the coil, connect an ohmmeter between the B+ pin and the pin corresponding to the cylinders in question.

The resistance on the primary side of each coil should be 0.45-0.65 ohms. Replace the coil if not within specifications.

Fig. 2: Detach the coil connector, then measure primary resistance with an ohmmeter

Secondary Coil Resistance Test

Disconnect the spark plug wires from the secondary towers of the ignition coil.

Fig. 3: Check secondary resistance between ignition coil towers 1 and 4, and coil towers 2 and 3

Use an ohmmeter to measure the secondary resistance of the coil between towers 1 and 4, then between towers 2 and 3.

Fig. 4: To measure secondary resistance, place the ohmmeter leads on the 2 and 3 cylinder coil towers

The secondary resistance should be 5,000-14,000 ohms. If resistance is not within specifications, the coil must be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Thanks alot. When i start my car i runs fine but as soon as it is warmed up or at normal idle it starts to spudder a bit. If i rev it up the spuddering might go away for alittle bit or it might not go away at all. engine code p0300 comes up random/multiple cylinder misfire. And a 02 sensor code came up but i replaced it and that code is gone. I also did a compression test before i looked into it any further. When i drive it which i try not to do it seems to drive fine, boost comes on fine and it pulls as hard as it did before. Any suggestions. I'v also replaced plugs.

Hi guys,

i have a Toyota Levin with a 4age 16v engine in it and i am getting rid of the MAP sensor, plug leads and dizzy and running EVO 5 Coils and leads. they have 2 x coils and 2 x leads off each coil and use wasted spark and u know,

I have 2 coils and 2 leads but from looking at the diagrams i should have a coilpack aswell should i? what does the coils plug into from the primary diagram above?

sorry is it is a stupid question but i just want to make sure before i drop the car down to my tuner with the new management and coilpacks etc only to realise im missing something??

DRFTKNGG's post is a general testing post. there is no coil pack. his picture shows both coils in one assembly.
