ROFL you said penetration

the rear o2 sensors are a PITA to get off, or they come off like butter

mine refused to come off, with 1000 miles on the clock...finally convinced it to come out with a vice grip

Some have to invest in a socket designed to remove O2 sensors...

It's worth the investment to remove it without damaging the sensor wires. Try getting an extension for your wrench or socket wrench. Apply constant pressure and the thing will give.

By the way I've been driving with my check engine light on for over 10k miles. I need to do that cel fix.

i cut the wires and pulled my cat out. got a 22mm wrench, put the cat between my feet and beat the snot out of the wrench with a rubber mallot... haha not a very good idea to cut the wires, but i just put some male and female wires cuplings on them so it would be easier to take back off if i needed to in the future.

also put some spark plug never seeze on the sensor so its not so hard to get out the next time.

^Hope that doesn't come back to bite you in the @ss. Heard that spliced O2 wires can cause false signals... Only heard this now, no experience.

Mine came out eventually, but the muffler shop had to weld it back into place in a very ingenius way.

When i put my test pipe in i tried everything even broke a 1/2" drive ratchet and my 3/8" drive ratchet on the o2 sensor socket. Used an old 1/2" drive torque wrench and got it to break loose, the location of it if i remember is what gave me the most trouble.
