wrong air intake??

so I got this '02 OZ from Autoway Dodge.....

anyway, it has this Injen intake on it.......and my car sputters, obviously.

so then I went on Injen.com to look for the cleaning products; found them..

then I looked at what was available for my car.....and they look nothing like this:: (the one's i've seen place the cone behind the battery)

is that the wrong intake?? and does it look like it's worth ordering the cleaning supplies for a cone that probably hasn't ever been cleaned??

or should i just order a new cone and the supplies?

or just get a new intake all together if that's the wrong one..?

thanks.

Nah, that's the InJen SRI for the Lancer! Assuming it's a reusable filter, just get the K&N filter recharger kit for it. It all works the same! I used my K&N cleaning kit on my RMR sri and alos the AEM filter on the Civic. Both came out perfect.

The kits on Ebay run $15 or so shipped. Gotta look well for them at that price, but they're there!

Welcome to Lancer World!

I'm not sure what the Injen SRI looks like but it kinda looks like just the short part of the CAI. I had an Injen CAI, and that definently looks like the small pipe that hooks to the MAF then the longer CAI part. It all works the same, it's fine, just need to clean the filter, they aren't supposed to be charcoal black like that...

Not that it matters but that certainly is not the Ingen SRI. The one I have one my car and the only one I've ever seen does put the filter right behind the battery and has a heat shield. Oh, and I'm pretty sure you should just throw that filter away. The car most likely would get cleaner air with no filter at all, ha.

I think it is resricting the air flow, a 15 dollar recharge kit should fix the problem, or just go buy whole new filter for 35-40, however you will still need to get a cleaning kit for when it gets dirty again.

thanks for the help guys.. I don't know how I missed in the Injen.com pics that this is actually the first half of the CAI..

the thing is, I deliver pizzas in it and I'm in FL.. where it rains a lot... So I'm thinking I'll just order a new cone and the cleaners.

Yeah, it's the oil in the filter recharger kit that blocks the water. So do a good coverage on the pleats! But just don't over do it like I did on my first cleaning! LOL. F'n filter was dripping red oil in the RMR heat shield! Learned my lesson...

Forgot to mention...my bad! I was thinking of the K&N Typhoon Kit that's designed like that! Like the others said, more liking just the top part of a CAI... I'd definitely recommend keeping it sri too!

Just a last FYI, I would almost recomend picking up another filter, just because of the down time you might encounter waiting for the old filter to dry out. I usually wait overnight then oil it the next day. If you are doing deliveries this should get you back on the road right away.

Your MAS might be bad too, I just helped another lancer owner with that issue and when I put my MAS and filter on his car it idled and run fine.

so i bought an AEM cotton filter instead of waiting for one in the mail, and i took off all the piping and cleaned it all..

I also disconnected the MAS and cleaned it with engine cleaner.

it still sputters, so it's probably a vacuum leak.

You might just need a tune up, How many miles and how long has it been since the last tune up?

idk i bought it with 66100 miles. no records came with it :/

and now i hear this quiet whistling sound when i'm driving.. cruising and accelerating. it sounds like it's coming from the right front or maybe it just sounds like it's coming from there.
