My Lancer is experiencing the same sort of difficulties. The CEL just came on 2 days after buying the car used. I have 77KM's and the car seems unresponsive after stopping. I'm going to change the air filter and have a look at the spark plugs. Hopefully it isn't a lingering problem like you guys have been experienced.

Yeah, maybe it'll be something simple in your case. As for me, I have a cam position sensor on the way now. I'll be sure and let you all know if that fixes the problem with my car.

NGK BKR5E-11 are what you want. You don't need anything special.

Well, for anyone interested, the cam position sensor didn't fix my problem. If anyone would like to see if it fixes their issue, I now have an extra one for sale.

So anyone have any other ideas?

Yeah they're 4 wire. You can get them here for ~$50.

And to kungfugirl:

Were you throwing a code for the O2 sensor before you replaced it?

Was misfire on Cylinder #2

Anyway - I replaced the plugs... after pulling them all apart I noticed all of them had a brown ring around the plug... looks like they were burning out.

I should be kicking myself in the teeth and you'll see why in a bit....

I went out and bought some NGK's for $1.99 a pop, I am an avid NGK fan and use them in my rotary... love them. I had previously put in Bosch plugs... why? Who knows..? The bosch plat 2's were $4.99 a pop vs the $1.99 NGK resistor types I had put in this morning. Bosch makes the crappiest plugs ever.....I'll never use them again.

The check engine light is on but hopefully it will go away. I took it for a test drive around the block - very responsive, and no stuttering.

My wife drop it to work this morning, roughly 20 miles street/highway and she said it did not stutter and noticed a significant increase in throttle response and acceleration.

Seems the NGK + o2 sensor fixed the issue... for now. =) Lets hope it doesn't torment me any longer. I'll post more updates if things begin to happen again.

Well how's it running? My lancer acted the same way, New plugs and coils always fixed it for about 10,000 miles. Then it goes back to running like crap. It starting to cost to much to keep it running. Is there something in these cars that would keep killing the coils.
